March 11 marks the 15th anniversary of the 3rd-largest seismic event ever recorded, the magnitude 9.1 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami. Recovery from this devastating event is still ongoing. Research into ways to make our society more resilient to nature's unpredictability continues.
We are delighted to announce the 2026-27 CRESCENT Seed Grant Program and request proposals for funding. Any researchers in the US that are part of an institution or organization that is eligible for regular NSF funding are invited to apply.

A year ago, Washington got its first ShakeAlert warning for a M4.5 beneath Orcas Island. Thousands of people received an earthquake early warning alert—and over ten thousand reported feeling shaking! The alert system is working and ready for the next one: www.washington.edu/research-mak...
Happy #FieldworkFriday! Site DREAM is, well... exactly that, a dream. Stehekin although hard to get to, only accessible by ferry, is beautiful no matter the season. With less than a day to work we went into the dark of night & made a final check in the morning after a fresh snow.
Applications are open for CRESCENT's technical short course "Strain Accumulation & Release from GNSS", led by members of the Coupling, Seismicity, and Slow Slip (C3S) working group,
