At the same time, the writing and world are still so compelling that I don't particularly care about the RPG systems. Wandering the swamps of Velen atop Roach, the wind rustling the trees, the music accompanying me... it's still a magical experience.

This replay confirms the things I didn't like my first time around: the combat is extremely meh and the character progression is unsatisfying. You unlock abilities but don't actually benefit until you equip said abilities in very limited slots. I have more ability points than open ability slots.

Back when I played Witcher 3 in 2015-2018, I barely ever used fast travel. This is largely why I had 250+ hours by the time I finished the Blood and Wine expansion. This time I'm more okay with fast traveling and trying not to obsessively clear every map icon.

Wasn't able to stream earlier in the week, so we're making it up tonight. We're still in Act 1 of Clair Obscure!

I suspect this is part of it. People have been very precious about spoiling the experience for others in a way I haven't seen outside of Final Fantasy 14 players wanting to protect new players' experience. I'm only in act 1 and I've been trying desperately to avoid spoilers too.
