The @unicef.org Executive Board session has begun. As a Board member for 2026–2028, Sweden is committed to advancing UN80 reform, transparency, measurable results, and a strong focus on girls at the heart of UNICEF’s strategic plan.

Today, Ambassador Nicola Clase, as Chair of the Humanitarian Dialogue, welcomed @wfp.org Executive Director Cindy McCain to the Swedish mission.

It was an honor to host the ED and to engage in a thoughtful exchange on the global hunger crisis, the humanitarian landscape and UN reform.

Today marked the beginning of the UN Preparatory Committee on crimes against humanity.
Sweden, on behalf of #TheNordics, stressed the importance of laying the foundations for a convention to prevent future atrocities and ensure crimes against humanity never go unpunished.

For his final time, the UN Secretary-General delivered his yearly address to the General Assembly.

Global cooperation is under unprecedented strain, with forces shaking its foundations and testing multilateralism itself. A strong, effective UN is more vital than ever.

We welcome the leadership of UN PGA in today’s session to chart priorities for the resumed part of the #UNGA80 session.

Today Sweden concludes its presidency of the UN Women Executive Board for 2025 and hands over to Uganda. We were honored to support @unwomen.bsky.social’s vital work and congratulate the incoming President and Vice-Presidents Albania, Kyrgyzstan and Belgium. Best wishes to the new Bureau.

#TheNordics reaffirm our commitment to bringing all unlawfully deported and forcibly transferred Ukrainian children home. Russia has admitted state-run transfers and adoptions of Ukrainian children. We demand their immediate, safe and unconditional return.

Human trafficking is rising and more children are being exploited.

At today’s UNGA-meeting on Human Trafficking, 🇸🇪 Ambassador to Combat Trafficking in Persons, called for stronger global efforts to dismantle criminal business models, stop online exploitation and ensure this crime never pays.

#TheNordics 🇩🇰🇫🇮🇮🇸🇳🇴🇸🇪 at today’s #UNSC debate on Ukraine:
“Russia’s actions demonstrate a clear lack of genuine intent to pursue peace. We must remember that this is a Russian war of choice. If President Putin so wished, he could cease the aggression and end the war tomorrow.”

Russia’s illegal deportations of Ukrainian children violate international law, including the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and international humanitarian law.

Sweden is working to ensure that the children can return home and that those responsible are held accountable.

Today marks 79 years since Sweden joined the UN.

Since 1946, Sweden has been a dedicated partner for peace, development, and human rights — guided by the #UNCharter and the belief that global challenges require global cooperation.

Together, we can shape a UN fit for purpose.

Last week, His Majesty the King of Sweden spoke at the high-level meeting Belém Climate Summit in Brazil, held in preparation for the UN Climate Conference #COP30, which starts today.

This year marks the 34th anniversary of the landmark resolution that established the foundations of UN-led humanitarian coordination as it is known today, and Sweden is proud to have facilitated the resolution ever since.

Last week, Sweden led an all-Member-state briefing by @unocha.org on the state-of-play of the humanitarian landscape and on two key reform processes – UN80 and the Humanitarian Reset. After the briefing, Sweden presented the zero-draft of the annual Humanitarian Omnibus resolution.

Today marks the 25th anniversary of the UN Resolution 1325 which addresses the critical role women play in peace & political processes, and the impact of conflict on women.

The latest UN Commission of Inquiry report concludes that Russia’s systematic drone attacks targeting civilians in Kherson may amount to crimes against humanity.

Supporting Ukraine and holding Russia accountable for its grave violations of international law remains a top priority for Sweden.

Let one truth be clear: Russia has chosen a war of aggression. Ukraine exercises its inherent right to self-defense under the UN Charter. There is no false balance between aggressor & victim. Russia must be held accountable.
