A bronze sculptural group depicting the Last Supper rests on a base carved from an erratic porphyry boulder . The funerary monument was erected by order of Davide Campari (1867-1936), owner of the eponymous beverage and liqueur company, whose father, Gaspare, had begun producing the bitter liqueur "bitter" in Milan around 1865. Not far from today's Porta Nuova district, in the factory on Via Galilei, Davide then began producing the sweet liqueur "cordial," which immediately met with great success. Thanks to a shrewd business strategy and a massive advertising campaign involving artists of the caliber of Fortunato Depero (1892-1960) and Bruno Munari (1907-1998), the Campari company enjoyed tremendous commercial expansion, becoming the leading company in the global liqueur industry today.
