That's fair, but (and please note I haven't seen this doc in over 20 years, so take what I say with a grain of salt), that seems more like a function of chronology than anything. I just remember it spending way more time on early jazz, big band, and bop, only getting to fusion, etc, at the very end

The centering of Shelby Foote is obviously the core sin of Ken Burns' Civil War documentary, but the inclusion of Foote and George Will are also significant jump scares in his baseball doc too.

I mean, I'm not a huge Globetrotters fan, but this comparison always bugs me. So much of the Globetrotters' gimmicks are a product of absolute mastery of a basketball, not just choreographed gymnastics, however impressive.

It's by far my favorite documentary of his, mostly because it doesn't feature Shelby Foote
