Unlike LOST IN THE JUNGLE, which I thought diminished a good story via vapid form, LOVE+WAR is brilliantly visceral, often placing us directly in the hands of famed photojournalist Lyndsey Addario, and giving just enough context to shape our experience. I think it's their best film since FREE SOLO.

In the 70s, the Uruguayan gov. banned Marcha & jailed its editors & members of a literary jury who awarded 1st prize to a story deemed "obscene and subversive" by the new regime. In solitary, FICTION published five of their stories in translation in 1976.

For InRO (In Review Online) I've reviewed "Last Days," a new film by Justin Lin, director of five Fast & Furious movies, about an American missionary making contact with the people of North Sentinel Island in the Bay of Bengal. I found it surprisingly interesting.

“Eleanor the Great” has a straightforward sort of heartbeat all too often lacking in today's cinemas, that recalls bittersweet dramas of old, without any presumption of importance.

Review of an americana-horror oddity starring Martin Freeman and two young stars—Jacob Tremblay and Julia Butters. Not especially frightening, but not terribly memorable either.
A little drama, a lot of humor, enough heart, and the “messiness” of life. A fun mid-budget flick with the aesthetics of an indie darling.

“Welcome to the new West,” in which teenage rodeo riders with undercuts listen to cloud rap and horses are sold on TikTok. EAST OF WALL is a ‘docu-drama’ that feels reminiscent of NOMADLAND. Fortunately, the drama is real, the Badlands are crumbling beneath the weight of America.
