Katabasis Review: The Straightforward Pathway, Rarely Lost Kuang is always very clear-eyed about what she’s trying to do and how she can make every element of her story reflect that, and I do admire it. But… I do think sometimes that comes at t…

Katabasis, (Somewhat) Glossed Glossary of a lot of the literary, cultural, and philosophical references I could find in RF Kuang’s Katabasis.

Both more and less to dig up in #katabasis than I had thought tbh... almost no odyssey and gilgamesh; plenty of dante and logic puzzles

trying out pagebound bc I don't want another app but am happy to try a site... it's cute! I don't agree with them not letting you track editions (my iliad translations!! my translations!!) but I like the little quests and things. it's fun. very booktok in conception but I like the ideas a lot

(Also considering my favourite osreth ship is the arranged marriage between What Sir Do You Quarrel Ceredin and Panic Attack VII Zhas I kinda have little stake in such things as 'conclusiveness' perhaps 😭)

‘I cannot make the answer other than it was’: Reading Queer Futurity In The Chronicles of Osreth Though Edelman calls for the Child-as-emblem’s ‘abortion’ (31), we do not see this idea realised in the series until Celehar’s trilogy begins. The Untheileneise Court is too fettered by the cycle o…

I don't think it helps that my copies of the tomb of dragons and the grief of stones are both in a completely different city rn but a noble attempt was made

wait I didn't realise clarke was still intending on trying to finish the strange and norrell sequel... what a champ I wouldn't have blamed her for saying it was basically never happening. especially bc she has like two other projects as well?

I guess they must have sent out loads of ARCs and people always feel like they should rate ARCs more highly lmao

Yeah it's a 'dystopian romantasy' which has gone about as well as you'd expect 😭 I keep seeing all these reviews like 'THIS is BAD?!' uh yeah idk it kinda looked like it might be from the get go

Maia Drazhar. I recently read the Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison and I loved it. Had to draw my take on the character.

In an Oxfam and I think we lost a diva because there were like ten discworld books in there... (unfortunately not small gods or jingo both of which I am STILL after, but I did get a first ed lords and ladies. mostly to stop myself being tempted to buy the 50 quid special edition of maskerade)

wasn't really interested in joe abercrombie's new one but then I saw those endpapers and the siren song of character illustration is calling to me...

I'm not super picky tbf! but I usually go in for high fantasy, fantasy of manners, historical, etc etc

I've read a lot of Addison, Pratchett, Clarke, Le Guin and Tolkien! I do find stuff I like, I just find it frustrating trying to sift through the oodles of YA recs lmao

Fantasy really!

25.04.2025 13:42 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

Like. There are lots of good YA books. But there is often a fairly marked difference between the ways YA and adult fiction are written and constructed!!

YA books are doing a lot of really important + exciting stuff, but I wish so many SFF recs (especially on booktok) weren't YA... I want to read adult SFF not YA, it doesn't really tick boxes for me these days, and I feel like people act like they're interchangeable when imo they're not quite 😭

a painting of Kiriona Gaia and Harrow Nonagesimus from The Locked Tomb series by Tamsyn Muir. Kiriona is a tall, dark-skinned young woman with short red hair, with a wreath of bones and forget-me-nots on her temples. she's wearing an unbuttoned white jacket with silver frogging and toggles. there's a large wound in her chest with sharp teeth sticking out of it. she's holding Harrow, who's dressed in a black shirt with a ribcage over it, and black trousers with a fragment of pelvic bone. she's sticking her fingers in Kiriona's wound
