that aside, got the week off work because of Dying Syndrome [nasty cold] and have been slowly kicking my art block by working on potential concept art for a potential game with my confirmed friends.

idk, I'm still in the throes of sick and my words aren't the clearest, but there's a tie between the AAA/realism push, the push toward aesthetics over stylization, and the loss of the miis. In short: [5/5]

It was also a little relieving today during the direct seeing that the noses are the same noses I had 12 years ago. The miis acted as caricatures that you HAD to adapt to instead of making them as cutesy as possible [which was also possible! but it wasn't the ONLY option!] [4/]

And I know that sounds like a stretch, and pointing to any multi-billion dollar company as an example of regression is stupid, but when the sequel to wii sports [the game with miis in it] no longer has miis as a mascot/focal point and instead has cocomelon ass characters, it's odd. [3/]

I'd watched a breakdown of different mii games and how we've been seeing them included less and less after being a mascot for upwards of 2 DECADES at this point, and it really highlighted a point that I've been thinking about for a while: we're regressing into the "pretty = good/ugly = bad" mindset.

Anyway not to be the friend who's too woke but I'm genuinely so tired of every industry being pared down to what's aesthetically pleasing [either visually, sexually, or marketably]. [1/]

okay so I lied I've been doing art but like

And I know so many baby queers in my community who have had to relearn who they are and what they're comfortable being, and it breaks my heart that some people are so miserable with themselves that they have to punch down to feel like they're worth the air they breathe.

When 2020 hit and being queer was "trendy", I was introduced to more options and labels and finally started unpacking everything I'd known and unlearned over 12 years, and now we're 6 years down the line and I'm still angry at every ass backwards bitch who preferred me miserable and straight.

I knew I liked girls at 7 years old, didn't know what gay was [other than an insult, thanks 2008], and then hid in the closet and under the bisexuality label until I was TWENTY. 13 years wasted on boys who pissed me off because of censorship and homophobia.

Saw a random comment under a video about an app that was taken off an app store but was fully dumped and downloadable as an apk calling it lost media and had to leave the comment section.

Elected officials have to stop posting like bystanders who have no power.

on the bright side, this general distaste for a lot of media has led to my own works getting really funny about how I handle my characters. no one can stop me from sidelining men or making them an accessory to the women.

And yk I wish I could let up on this and enjoy media under this umbrella, but even with the best intentions I can't entirely trust it. Every time I see heels in battle, irrational emotional outbursts, or a woman as an accessory to the "actual" characters [men] it just kills my enjoyment.

my hottest take is that men shouldn't be allowed to write women without supervision. If there's not a woman in the room going "hey that's fucking weird/wrong/etc" then I don't wanna hear it. Unreliable source. Transition or find a reliable source.
