In the UK, we have some of the highest rates of child poverty in the country. Charities, politicians, parents, faith groups, unions, and thousands of ordinary people have been fighting for our kids – calling to end the cruel two-child benefit limit.

Child poverty costs the UK economy an estimated £39 billion per year - more than ten times the money that keeping the two-child limit 'saves'.

And as the limit itself is the largest driver of rising child poverty in the UK, scrapping it would be the most cost-effective way to reduce child poverty.

The fact is that scrapping the two-child limit in full is the most cost-effective way to reduce child poverty and deliver economic returns in the long-term.

The majority of families affected by the two-child limit have three children.

A large majority of the remaining families who aren't currently working are unable to do so.

Almost 6 in 10 households currently penalised by the two-child limit are in work.

A partial lifting of the two-child limit at the Autumn Budget would still leave child poverty rising and would risk creating levels of hardship not seen under a Labour government for more than half a century.
