I think the reason I used to love traffic engineering so much, ever since I was a kid, was actually pretty simple: it created order. Movements are channelized, separated; flows are organized. Wait, that's real?

I was taking art classes in college, and a homework assignment was to draw a friend. Since people don't usually sit still for very long, I asked a friend if I could draw him while he watched a James Bond movie on DVD. One of his friends came by, saw my drawing, and said, "Now THAT'S talent!"

This is like something straight out of a Charlie Kaufman film.

This week, I've gotten so depressed over what I've been doing with the past two decades, that I've been dizzy and nauseous off and on. Anyway, I just got today's mail. It included a certificate for 10% off my funeral or cremation. Nice.

...taught the political/policy side of things, which isn't the area I work best in. I've always been more of a visual thinker, which is why I always wanted to work on the design side of urbanism. (3/3)

...that didn't lead to anything I wanted to do. Now I work in retail. I want to get an actual urban design degree, but I have to go out-of-state for that. The thing is, I've always understood planning/urbanism from a visual/spatial/geometric perspective, and planning school mostly just.... (2/3)

When I was getting my planning degree, they told me I needed to go back to school for architecture or landscape arch. if I wanted to do urban design. I wasn't ready to do that, so I stumbled through various non-planning jobs, a computer science degree, and one planning-adjacent internship.... (1/3)

I learned that the hard way.

You gotta be careful about going into urban planning programs. They're easier to find than urban design programs, but they might end up teaching you little if anything about urban design. And if you ask them, "How do I pursue urban design?" their answer will likely be, "Get another degree."

Squats, crunches, farmer's walk--anything that works your core--will help make it firm.

Woe, old art upon ye

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for Sega Game Gear/Master System, because it's so unforgivingly hard, and I would just like an easy mode. At least the first boss in the Master System version is easier, but still, some of the later levels are a nightmare.
