Quick on the draw: the worldwide appeal of sketching 100 people in a week Liz Steel and Marc Taro Holmes live on opposite sides of the globe, but connected through a sketching challenge. Now it’s a phenomenon If you’re lucky, you may spot Liz Steel tucked into the corner of a sun-dappled Sydney cafe, water-soluble pencils and markers in hand. Half a world away, Marc Taro Holmes is led by his sketchbook on to the thawing streets of Montreal, “like a bear coming out of hibernation”. The duo are co-founders of #OneWeek100People challenge, an informal global initiative that asks artists to sketch 100 people in seven days. The challenge, now in its 10th year, took place this week, but Steel and Holmes stress it is entirely for enjoyment and anyone can take it up and post with the hashtag at any time. America’s bomb mindset

"America... has never moved on from the war with Japan," writes Stand Grant. “The regime change and occupation of Imperial Japan shadows the so-called American Century.” satpa.pe/HSYjaOH

It would have been devastating for me to leave feeling otherwise. I would feel that all the work I had done over 39 years was for nothing.

My final teaching job, before retiring, was in a school that has the recipe right in fostering caring, community minded young people. I was so pleased to leave teaching feeling confident that at least in that place, there was hope for a better future and outcomes for the majority of students.

I get that. Time and experience sharpens your understanding of individual potential in the young people we work with.

Close up of a drawing to show texture and colour. Orange background in watercolour with textures drawn over the top in waxy pencil in zig zag lines of white, green, white and red. A small section of drawn lines in black ink on white paper on the left edge. Another close up of the same drawing with orange background and spiral motifs with radiating lines from the centre of the spirals. Yellow, purple and black waxy pencils used for these textures. Top edge is part of a white shape outlines with ink. Another close up of a drawing with a blue watercolour background and textures created with waxy coloured pencils over the top of this colour using textures plates to create an impression. Orange and yellow coloured pencil used for these textures. A small section of a drawing in ink on white paper in the top left corner.

Working on some experiments for the artworks I am planning for the #incognitoartshow. Can reveal some extreme closeups only. Playing with ink pen, watercolour and coloured pencil to create texture.

We have an old set up too, not quite at the scale of this. I remember when CD’s became the norm everyone was impressed with the quality of the sound but that was a con now in hindsight. Our system with our vinyl collection sounds so, so good.

How to divide a nation Australia needs a mature, balanced debate on immigration and it needs it as an urgent priority. Unfortunately, it is a policy area too easily abused by political opportunism, misinformation and emotio...

Image of South Beach at Port Hughes, Yorke Peninsula, South Australia. The bottom two thirds of the photo captures the ripples in the wet sand with a long view down the beach. The top third of the photo captures the bright blue sky, sand dunes along the curve of the bay with three people and a dog walking along the beach

Today’s walk was at the fabulous Port Hughes.

Wow! Well done you. I’ve never been able to run/jog. Best I could do was use an elliptical trainer at the gym for a solid 30 minutes….but that was many years ago now. You are training for running which is fabulous.
