Stolen with Roberts' help (he was part of Shrub's legal team).

More than 70% of the federal judges criticized what has been the abuse of the emergency docket. Devastating. These are the jurisprudential experts. But Roberts will blow off their judgment here like he's blown off so many of their judgments already & effectively blown up the Republic doing it.

The meta message here is that "truth depends on the narrator." I.e., there is no truth; everything is relative. In the past, the newspaper would be the narrator & it would present the "truth" as that could best be ascertained, incl. in the headline. Now the MSM often abdicates that responsibility.

Thune does a very good "serious face," no matter what is happening. Here, he's agreeing that Congress' power of the purse means nothing and that his position as Senate Majority leader means nothing except fulfilling the president's agenda, including breaking the country.

Destroy our economy but make a few bucks on the side. Pure, unfettered capitalist greed. It's stunning to see it. And absolutely frightening.

Thank you for the article. My only quibble is with the headline. There were lessons learned, but they were forgotten: by the GOP, the SC, the MSM, the "aristocracy." Great examples of how to act have often been ignored, deliberately. Our current political slide is also a moral one.

Republicans have long fantasized about "downsizing" the federal government. To see some of the destruction documented is stunning & frightening. And all this in under a year!

Per Elliott Morris right now, Trump's approval is at 41.8%. In August he was at 41.7% for a time. He's very unpopular. All he's got is bluster. What's interesting is that the bluster seems crazier lately, like threatening to arrest the Illinois gov & Chicago mayor. I see dementia & desperation.

Sad those who were laid off hadn't taken the buyouts.

From a friend who owns a farm in NW Iowa: Farmers' logic was that Trump was a businessman who understood them & their needs; he would be good for them & good for the economy generally.
When voters are this clueless, it can make one question the wisdom of having a democracy.

The Roberts Supreme Court has been so off the wall these last several years, I could actually imagine it signing off on, say, Trump using the Insurrection Act. And if that happens, we might be in actual Civil War II territory.

Machiavelli is always relevant for a political discussion. Re the "deceived," I'm thinking of all those soybean farmers who voted for Trump and now are seriously hurting.

The administration is overplaying its hand. That's good.

It's also a vote against Schwarzenegger. Enjoy it.

Newsom gets it. He's also not overthinking things, which can hold back most politicians. While Newsom has made some bad moves (podcast with Bannon, positive statement about Kirk), he is the leader for the pushback. But I wonder, where are the other Dems officials behind him who should be there?

We are watching in real time as a Civil War II starts in earnest. As a historian, I'm amazed I'm here with all of this playing out in front of me. As a citizen of the United States, I'm appalled and afraid but also excited because I know that "the North" will win again.

06.10.2025 20:37 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Good for Newsom. The politician who is out front on the resistance should be the politician who leads the Dems in 2028. Newsom isn't perfect & he's messed up a few times over the past year (e.g., a podcast with Bannon, ridiculous praise for Kirk), but at least he's fighting every day.

In academia, using "white men" in this pejorative way is routine and accepted as "normal" by lefties (who would have a cow if other social groups were specified) & centrists (who realize that complaining will bring loud abuse from the lefties). Administrators stay neutral & silent about it all.

I have a friend who decamped to Australia with all his belongings, leaving his wife to do it, & he thinks that he's resisting. He goes to the gym, meets regularly with expats from other countries for convos in their language, & spends hours on the phone talking to people back in the U.S.

Will the MSM report this? Seems BIGLY news! (If it were a file dealing with Hillary Clinton, I wouldn't even need to ask the question.)

If we had a functioning MSM like a generation ago, the sirens would have been blaring with the coverage. But we don't and there wasn't.

War crimes every day. Russia must have its day at the Hague. There must be consequences that include guilty verdicts for Putin, first and foremost, plus billions in reparations.

This is primarily on the Politico ... reporter(?) correspondent(?) ... ok, hack. Coverage elsewhere on the issue isn't great for the Dems either. The MSM is, obviously, seriously broken. But Dems had 6 months to set up the messaging on this & they (Schumer, Jeffries) did a lousy job at it.

Thank you for sharing this & for doing your best with your interlocutor. As I read I recalled to mind something Josh Marshall said recently in a piece at TPM: "quite a few [law professors] persist in making excuses for the current corruption ... ." That was Baude.

Exactly. With "I doubt he means," Mr. Nichols have moved from "expertise," which he has in things military, to gut feeling/intuition/guessing. Even if it's a riff by Trump--is it part of the speech itself; is this Miller's fantasy?--there's every reason to think that Trump believes it.
