It is an existential imperative that we begin a serious global dialogue about how ‘experts’ as the media uses the term, consistently lag behind us laymen when it comes to Knowing Some Bullshit When We See It.

"Ridesharing companies like Uber, for instance, can charge users more when they have lower battery life on their phone. And Instacart was recently caught using AI to experiment with seeing how much consumers would pay for various groceries, with some people paying up to 23% more for the same goods."

The math supporting this assessment has been on point for decades, yet here we are. The same is true for other social programs. Flooding the zone with real support that isn't littered with costly oversight & litmus tests is a win for all.

The actual case being made here, that AI can be a kind of sounding board or conceivably a tutor, is already satisfied by working with other human beings, which in addition brings benefits AI cannot bring.

Also, I am tired of the blanket assertions AI is here "forever."

I think if I'd gotten away with attempting a coup, suffered no consequences for it, then won an election four years later, got away with executing citizens in the streets and foreigners in boats, and successfully abducted a head of state, I too might think I could just bomb my way to regime change

Literally the only Will Ferrell movie I like, but that's because generally I don't enjoy Will Ferrell and this is not him doing his normal thing. I have no attachment to him in this role specifically I just love the movie. It's our traditional Thanksgiving movie. We quote it a lot.

Ice is kidnapping people on North Ave in Baltimore near the East end. Warn your people and stay safe.

36 people have died at ICE's hands in the past year

may of these deaths did not happen on camera, but it does not make them any less horrifying and unacceptable

this is a list of their names, where they lived before being abducted, and a link to crowdfunding if i can find it

In 2018 (when we did Abolish ICE blockades and encampments), ICE was-- wrongly-- considered a legitimate, rule-abiding federal agency exercising its power within the confines of the law.

It's pretty difficult for "centrists" to make that case with a straight face these days

Authoritarians use performative lying to mark who is for, and more importantly, against their regimes.

The point isn’t determining truth. The point is creating an ingroup whose loyalty is assured through ritually denying reality and an easily recognizable outgroup that refuses the delusion.

Of course I did not just walk through the back hall of the hospital quietly chanting to myself "be gay do crime" with accompanying cheering motions and the fact that you would insinuate such is slanderous...

An unwrapped tamale.

Yesterday, when Bovino announced ICE would be returning to Little Village today, some of us donated and fundraised to buy out street vendors in the neighborhood. This morning, volunteers hit the streets at 6:30 am, looking for vendors to buy out. Tamales make an excellent breakfast.

Those 8 Democrats are not “weak,” to their corporate donors, they are incredibly strong.

Corporate money in politics is the problem.

There's a ton of incompetence in this admin; we see that every day.

But *this facet* of the Trump regime is about lawlessness, cruelty, corruption, manipulation, & retribution—& it is EXPERT-level, running circles around Ds & courts.

Ds, he (& his lapdog Rs) cannot be trusted.

Important to remember that none of these W. Era neo-cons ever redeemed themselves, they just demonstrated their own lack of basic foresight in their horror at Trump's exploitation of the mechanisms and narratives they championed

ICE shooting a food bank worker in the back is a little on the nose for the current moment

Yes, this is it - BORING!

The US captivated global fascination while it was this place where a future *never seen before* was being created.

Now it's just trying to adopt and resurrect stuff that's painfully familiar to the rest of the world.

We know how this goes - we already have it at home!

Why you should care about @karenattiah.bsky.social’s firing: ‘It never stops just at black people when our voices are being silenced. It never stops when it’s just marginalized people being silenced. It is always a test case for what is possible to other people’

REV. BLACK (who was shot in the head with a pepper ball): “If this is what they’re doing to pastors, journalists, teachers, mothers, and the elderly gathered to sing and pray outside ICE facilities… what might they be doing to our neighbors who are behind those walls?”

I will forever say, there are times that call for high risk activities.

But there are NEVER times that call for doing high risk activities with The New Guy, especially if The New Guy proposes them.

So, a child was losing weight (the implication is the stress of the Alpha School's methods) so much so her pediatrician recommended additional snacks, and the School's untrained "guides" (who are not teachers) withheld those snacks from the child until "she met her learning metrics"?

Chicago Mayor Issues Defiant Call For A General Strike It was an audacious proposal, given that the U.S. has never held a true, nationwide general strike.

Ta-Nehisi Coates describes what he saw in Palestine as ‘apartheid’, resembling America’s segregated Jim Crow South Ta-Nehisi Coates said going to Palestine, shortly before the Hamas attacks, was ‘a huge shock’ – and he felt a responsibility to yell about what he saw there. In The Message, he does just that.

Imagine being a minority lawmaker funded by modern day Jim Crow.
