In Frankfurt again. No luck finding the Städel's Chardin, but here's another, on loan from the Louvre.
Something Debussy wrote, about depicting not the object but the memory of the object.

Un peu ennuyante cette sonnerie du Monsieur Depardieu. Moi, je préfère le Cassidy, réalisée par ce clarinettiste formidable. Tu le connais? La clarinette en mi bémolle est presque toujours maudite de cette voix stridente, mais ici elle bouillonne de vie et humeur. Un musicien vraiment magnifique!

Disconcertingly, the people are more three-dimensional, more real, than they could possibly have been in the original snapshot.

No, Philippe Auguste wasn't pregnant; "enceinte" can also mean "enclosure". And you can have an "enceinte bluetooth", though that wasn't available around the year 1200.
