I had a blast speaking at AuFiCon last year, as well as listening to all the other amazing talks. I'm really looking forward to this year. If you like audio fiction, this convention is definitely worth checking out. And the best part- it's virtual and free!
Thank you for this
Too many people assumed it was ICE doing it when no! Actually regular cops are also very very bad and cruel and given technology that should not have ever been invented
An LRAD was used on protestors a couple days ago in Minnesota for crowd control. Although they thankfully didn't use the warning tone, which is the most damaging sound LRADs can make, it's important to know that Minnesota State Patrol has them out: www.yahoo.com/news/article...
They help in the they reduce the noise about 20-30dB, but you can still get hearing damage with them. LRADs can go up to 150dB, so even with ear plugs you'd be at around 120dB. A loud concert is usually around 80dB for comparison.
1000%. Ear plugs can make a difference between "in so much pain I can't move" and "I'm in pain but can think well enough to get away" if you're caught unaware, but even with earplugs you can still have damaged hearing.
We're not much longer for this Earth, but before the Grimoire is tossed into the River Styx, we're awarding 6x $50 USD micro grants to ttrpg designers or content creators that could use a small boost. π€

It's annoying that we already had so many existing problems to solve before these assholes created a bunch of new ones for no reason

Also if anyone happens to see an LRAD at the protests, feel free to DM me so I can try and spread the word.
If you go to a protest, bring hearing protection and keep your eyes peeled for LRADs. They can be either hand carried or mounted on vans, and keep in mind the ones on vans can sometimes swivel and change where they're pointed. Stay safe out there y'all.
Some of the symptoms of being hit by an LRAD are headache, pain, nausea, disorientation, and dizziness. If you are hit, get to safety as quickly as possible to reorient yourself.
(Also not a fan of some of the language on this graphic, but it's one of the best demo graphics I could find)
LRADs project sound in a straight line ahead of them that can be heard from hundreds of meters away. The sonic beam is super narrow though. If you get caught in one, cover your ears and immediately move SIDEWAYS. Stepping directly to the side will leave you unaffected.
Now they're mostly used in crowd control, as if they were giant megaphones. Unfortunately, they are tremendously loud, so much so that they can cause hearing damage. Some LRADs can be louder than the sound of a jet taking off, in excess of 140dB.
LRADs were initially designed as speakers loud enough to communicate between ships. Since then, they've been redesigned and become commonplace in law enforcement. At first, they were used in hostage situations (loud enough to speak to a hostage taker in a building from outside).
I made a post in 2020 talking about the dangers of long range acoustic devices (LRADs) being used at protests, and with everything happening in Minneapolis, I think it's time for an updated post in case anyone sees an LRAD at one of these protests (1/?)

I see a lot of people talking about The Hague, and I need you to know about something from 2002: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/America...
aka βThe Hague Invasion Actβ
It was signed into law 24 years ago. If you look at such history it will curb some surprise for modern day events.
we live in a dark, DARK fucking timeline where people can literally bet on war as if it's sports
not even pop culture creators could've predicted the depths of depravity that humanity can bring itself down to
