With that estimator, we jump forward to 19th century London to look at the birth of the city's first professional police force, finding that within their jurisdiction the concentration of violence around markets declined over 50%... (5/N)

We make the argument that the factors driving violence in illicit markets are not unique to the commodities being sold, rather that violence would exist in any market if the participants were similarly cut off from formal institutions of enforcement and dispute resolution. (2/N)

Female politicians face an additional gender gap: they are 3️⃣ times more likely to experience violence while in office.

We study the reasons and consequences of violence in a new paper, summarized in this column cepr.org/voxeu/column...

I'm Zach, I'm a post doc at the CLEAN unit at Bocconi University. I finished my PhD last year at West Virginia University. Primarily, at the moment, I work on crime topics but really just into applied micro stuff.
