Waterspout to start the day in Livorno. Photo by Ale Siotto
I always wondered if there were Italian tornadoes in U.S. or other far away countries' news, I love it! Perugia didn't get anything at all (at least, nothing worth reporting) that day, but the province did. All that damage likely refers to the tornado that struck Citerna
Additional damage both to the west and east remains uncertain and the full path could be even longer, as I previously stated
New update on the Apulia tornado of Feb 17: with new reports and Sentinel-2 imagery clues, what we previously reported as two separate twisters are now merged into one almost-19 km long path, becoming the longest tracked tornado known in Italy in February
The Oria tornado made international news in Germany due to the town of Lorch being twinned with Oria. Insane FB feed pull

I was being generous calling this one a survey lol
Thanks to a small survey, a second tornado produced by the February 17th supercell in Apulia can be confirmed. Still uncertain if this was part of a much longer tracked tornado or if there are multiple of them in a cyclical supercell event
Then the Aversa tor yesterday afternoon: likely triggered by outflow winds, it started out rather broad but then constricted itself as it got on the far S part of town and was filmed by surveillance cameras. Much lighter damage (fortunately) at IF0.5, with very weak trees being the main "fatalities"
In the end the Oria - Torre Santa Susanna tornado ran for over 9 km (likely more than 10) causing extensive vegetation damage and some locally heavy structural damage. We went with an IF1.5 rating due to some uncertainties. RIJ/RFD really pumped the southern side especially initially
A second, smaller tornado was confirmed under that swirl today
Confirming the overnight event as a tornado: damage pattern in southern Oria and NW Torre Santa Susanna here, along a continuous damage path, maybe wider on the southern side in some areas (S Oria) due to rear inflow jets or rear flank downdraft from the (super)cell
Overnight thunderstorms (at least one was supercellular) brought hail and intense wind damage in Apulia (between Oria and Brindisi), we will have to investigate to try and understand if there was a tornado. What a way to wake up!
Oh my God, dualpol products are a game changer in Europe as well
Tornado and severe hail NW of Terracina with a likely small supercell this morning
Phew, what an event this morning. These are the reports we sent to the ESWD and the actual measured rain amounts (which are lower than the total event, those are just the last 24 hours from the ARPACAL network). We were lucky nobody got hurt, unlike in Lazio where we had 1 death
In the last 24 hours there has been extensive damage from wind in Sardinia and (convective) rains in Calabria. Here's an example of what a mudslide caused in the Rovito, Calabria area (unknown author)

A clear TDS can be seen during most of the tornado's life. It extends at least up to a bit above 1 km altitude (note that nearest neighbour interpolation for the RGB doesn't work so well with the low vertical resolution of French data). There also seems to be a debris fallout signature,
Météo-France has now provided me with the full dataset for Trappes for the Ermont IF2 tornado, which killed 1 person and injured at least 9. In this storm-following loop you can see a strong RFD surge leading up to the tornado:
Grazalema, Spain, received over 2,000 mm (78 inches) of rain in just the last 20 days.
Over a year’s worth of rain — and it’s only early February. This is hydrologically absurd.

🚨Check out our new IODP paper on Kolumbo Volcano in Greece. Despite being one of Europe's most dangerous volcanoes not much is known about its eruptive history. The paper led by @abigaillily.bsky.social adds important insight into the Kolumbo-Santorini system

Oh I know, I know, I made the joke on Twitter right after reading what happened to that train (but I hope one day to find more information on what happened, the cars could have been just overturned and the news just made a bigger deal of it).
Thank you! It's nowhere near perfect but I try my best!
You're exactly on point! This likely was (much?) stronger than the IF2 last July. And the other events of that day are not much different, as the other likely tornado sounds significant-strong as well and a possible third one between these two potentially chucked train cars in fields
Hey Everyone!
I'm going to become more active on this account once more! Expect more of my photos, and TC forecasts if things of interest occur. You're definitely gonna see my face more on your timeline!
Anyway, here are some photos to get to know me by! 💜
