a lot of critiques in aughts alleged that pentagon was influencing video games and in truth the relationship seems to be the other way around

A majority of the Israeli electorate wants the things they're getting from their government. This is one reason why sanctions are important and should be broad-based. Israelis need to understand that their policies have consequences.

i've said this many times, today even: if you use ai in your job, your employer should be paying for it.

only thing is I hope eventually they increase the ram on it a little (and therefore the iphones / ipads) and make it compatible with the studio display.

the MacBook Neo is imo Apple's most exciting product in a long long time. imo I think this focus on building computers for everyone rather than just premium products was something they lost after the Jobs era

I’m someone who has been using these tools for months. I think all of this is true, these machines can program as well as a senior engineer but with the design intelligence of a junior. However, what we lose in the process is bad. We are losing a mental muscle that is important in our trade.

2. I believe that this style of thinking and interaction is both stupid and doomed. It doesn't accurately describe what LLMs are capable of these days, and it demands that people ignore the evidence before their eyes. If you are a programmer, you know Claude can code, and sometimes it can code well.

my view is that you can be allowed to have an open marriage, just not to write a magazine article about it.

had a death in the family and was almost completely off the internet for a few days & my observation is that there is too much happening too fast such that basic facts abt the world are difficult to ascertain unless you are mainlining info all the time & doing that seems to drive people insane

New rule: AI has shown us that 90% of the time, half assing it is good enough.

Like you, I find this offensive.

I'm concerned, if things don't go well in Iran, that there will be a new "stabbed in the back narrative" around Israel that will extend to Jews in general.

California has basically been coded as "woke liberal hellhole" to the rest of the population and especially against Newsom, it's not hard to see a GOP politician (whether Vance or Rubio) going "he's going to make the rest of the nation look like that."

This is still mostly about labor discipline, tbqf. This is an assertion to an ideological commitment that is predetermined, ie that software engineers are not needed and can be gutted as necessary because AI *must* be capable of replacing their engineers because they hate having engineers.

ai is a rhetorical technology.

when it produces a list of permissible targets, its value is not producing targets but producing permission

All true but it's frustrating that we might have been spared a lot of this but for the Lancet publishing Andrew Wakefield's fraudulent study in 1998
