Federal grant fuels study to enhance wildlife safety on NY roads The state Department of Transportation has received a federal grant for a two-part study to look at ways to reduce wildlife-vehicle accidents and improve habitat connectivity.

“Improving wildlife crossings will help people by minimizing animal-vehicle collisions and reducing insurance rates, and animals will benefit from the identification of wildlife habitat corridors in the Adirondacks and beyond,” Levine said.

A black wolf with a white muzzle walks toward the right side of the frame. The ground is covered with a dusting of snow, and there are dry plants in the foreground. At least 30 bison, crowded up against one another can be seen about 20 yards in the diatance.

Went for a backcountry ski today and also got to see a wolf pack chase a herd of bison around a meadow.

What an incredible privilege to bear witness to this sacred winter ritual.

Someone who’s research in wildlife health I follow and admire is Dr. Krysten Schuler. She works at the Cornell Wildlife Health Lab within the School of Veterinary Medicine. I believe she has her PhD.
