No way! That makes sense.
It’s not like the Interceptor missile flew more than 18 inches. The Dinky SHADO Mobile on the other hand, with the flip-over missile launcher… you needed a bunch of extra ammunition for those. “PINGGGG!….” it’s gone!
I’m a day or two late, but what a great cover.
Those are fabulous shots, great work all.
Oh Honda 😕. We know, out of all the far-east manufacturers, you have a real talent for design and innovation, so every now and then we get our hopes up. Latterly you never miss an opportunity to disappoint us.
That’s a good point. I guess he was happy as long as everyone agreed with him. If that’s what you need, just post pictures of cute dogs (like I do 😀)
I get the feeling he blocked the orig thread, so it’s prob hard for anyone to see the context. He was basically saying that he can’t rationalise the fact that certain films act as cultural touchstones for so many people. He could have just said “I don’t really like movies” and saved a lot of time.
I think I saw he has 70k-odd followers, but apparently none of them ever reply to him. Lucky him.
“Unsolicited threads to a post” 🙂. I think his thread was about 10 posts of unsubstantiated BS. My reply was maybe four posts, polite, and I thought reasonably well-argued. If you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime.
If you write a long thread on a social media platform, people you don’t know are guaranteed to see it. The fact that I strongly disagree with your view does not make me a stalker. If you need to publish a load of condescending BS but don’t want anyone to engage with it, there are other outlets.
(You see, now *Im* generalising. There’s probably 17-year-olds listening to Vivaldi instead, somewhere.)
What I mean is, I think people do know the difference between movies and the real world. No one is confusing one with the other (apart from it seems, the Iranians). But why is it such a surprise that 17 year olds would choose to watch Iron Man over 60 Minutes?
Is it the case tho? Some movies are embedded in popular culture, they’ve become a reference point for millions. They’ve become a common ground. Like asking someone what their favourite Beatles song was in the 60s/70s. I don’t see anything wrong with that. People are allowed to like what they like.
So I think you’re making huge generalisations. You might want to think about that.
But there have always been badly-written mass-market books (and masterfully-written mass-market books), just like there are badly-written mass-market movies. And magnificently-constructed movies. Some of great motion pictures become commercial hits, some don’t. I fail to see the problem.
Books, movies, movies that are adaptations of books… they’re all stories, just the method of delivery is different. Probably fair to say that movies and TV reach a bigger audience than books do these days. Standards within literature are probably higher mind you.
The world has used stories to communicate ideas of morality and values since forever. Beowulf or Sleeping Beauty or Jack And The Beanstalk. The Lord Of The Rings and the MCU serve the same role. They act like modern fables. If young ppl watch these movies and absorb the themes then it’s all good.
Indeed. Shortly into the Donut’s first term I got drawn into a discussion with this ex-acquaintance Scientologist about Trump. Decided to kick that friendship to the kerb asap. He also repeatedly stabbed me in the back business-wise without a moment’s hesitation. Completely divorced from reality.
Maybe the cults recognise other cults as kindred souls. Is there a cult-style organisation that *doesn’t* approve of the Donut?
It certainly seems that way. I knew one and I still get Facebook notifications when he and his Sci friends dive into other people’s conversations about Trump. They’re so detached from reality it’s beyond belief.
The fact that all the Scientologists LOVE everything he does says it all.
For the vast majority of people in the UK, £75k would be life-changing money. Imagine occupying a social strata so removed from normal concerns that this is the amount you get just for being sacked.
(…right before the shooting starts and the compound mysteriously catches fire.)
“Yes I am aware that our group leader slept with my daughter. And my husband has been missing for three weeks now. So I won’t deny that makes me a little uncomfortable. But I still have faith in his teachings and the future he sees for us all.”
Unless her next words were “Yes, I still believe in Donald Trump, and if he runs again I will vote for him again.” I’ve seen so many other MAGAs say this. It’s a cult.
DOGE staff were only on salaries of $120k-$200k per year. You can’t expect them to actually understand what they were doing. www.wired.com/story/doge-g...
Should have asked: “As I’m sure you know, DEI is an abbreviation. Can you tell me what the letters D E and I stand for?”
If anyone else killed 160 children in one morning and described what they’d done as a “little excursion” a hundred armed law enforcement officers would be surrounding their house.
I risked looking at Facebook yesterday. Can confirm. Yes, it’s a cult.
He’s no Robin Williams is he?
