I love many old things - technology, photography, games, anime etc. I'm mostly here to enjoy art and maybe post an occasional cat photo. Occasionally make things for retro game jams or Ludum Dare.

05.12.2025 15:18 โ ๐ 73 ๐ 11 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Dragonfell running on four Psion Series 3 machines, showing off various different aspects of the game. Having too many Psions does have its advantages after all. From left to right: the new game menu where a player chooses what level of computer opponent to play against, or alternatively to play against a human opponent; the strategic map where the player gives armies to move around the land; the production map where the player decides what units to produce and where; and the tactical map where battles are fought when opposing armies try to occupy the same region on the strategic map.
Taking a break from MS-DOS, I've been working on a game for the #PsionSeries3 pocket computer. Dragonfell is a #HOMM inspired game where two sides raise armies of creatures and send them against one another across a decaying land, trying to seize the other's citadel. It goes into beta test today.

Dragon Ruins II is OUT now on the PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch.
Have fun!

Angel's Egg (1985 4K Theatrical Remaster)
Man. All I can really say is that it's a really pretty film.
More weird stories need to be made, more animation needs to be supported.
More dreams of things that inspire must be nourished to create.
Things like these exist for Art's sake and I'm glad.
Smaller, passion-led projects created by talented people who care about their craft are still out there! Please don't give up. Support the internet and the creatives you want to see! ๐งต

Remember that.
Remember her.
I wanna say that Koshiro has stated that sampling FM synth waveforms into DS samples for the early EO games rekindled his love of FM and samplers - that's why a lot of his recent work has been FM based. But yeah shame about the 3DS OSTs. (This could be complete hearsay from my muddled memories).

17.11.2025 16:48 โ ๐ 34 ๐ 9 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I'm updating my Big Spreadsheet Of Cool Free PC Games again!
I merged in all the incomplete entries, which I'm working on chipping away at and filling in the details of, which has bulked the list up to 324 items. But some of them are for entire series' or platforms, so probably ~400 games here.
A small metal cubed camera - a Mamiya Super 16 - sits on a cheap faux wooden table with an IBM Model M keyboard out of focus behind it.
A large format wooden camera - an Agfa Ansco 5x7 - sits on a wooden table. A tiny metal Mamiya Super 16 camera sits on top of it.
Jumping into subminiature cameras with this little cute Mamiya Super 16 - also got a handful of old metal carts for it. Waiting on some old microfilm to arrive, but in the meantime I took a funny size comparison photo. My 5x7 Agfa Ansco really dwarfs this little thing.
15.11.2025 19:29 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0These do work on non-MG machines too. VZ is probably setup to run in its special MG mode that needs the full MG DOS/V install for those special video modes - but running VZIBM should work on most English PC compatibles. NEED has an English COM file called NEEDE.
15.11.2025 02:05 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Also uploaded my copies of NEED and VZ since that website seems to be gone now. I wouldn't be surprised if these are still floating around on some Japanese website I can't find at the moment. Not the most permanent solution but I'd be sad if NEED disappeared. next.srv.hostvoid.net/index.php/s/...
15.11.2025 01:49 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Great news! I wish you luck - I never had tons of luck with non-MG specific software. That and when I could get CGA emulation working it ran slower than a PC XT. I had hoped to use it for a bit of coding but never had any luck besides GW-Basic. Certainly other people had better luck though.
15.11.2025 01:33 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I preferred using NEED on mine - an editor I've found very little on. I can't seem to find the webpage I originally downloaded it from. The MGTools archive file that was also mentioned on the Vogons thread seems gone so I uploaded it on a friends server for now. next.srv.hostvoid.net/index.php/s/...
14.11.2025 23:15 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Here's some native applications website I had saved that went down this year. web.archive.org/web/20240804... VZ Editor was a popular use case for this device so a lot of japanese MG sites are built for tips/plugins for that. You will need to go through more setup for that to work.
14.11.2025 23:12 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Ctrl+alt+delete doesn't really work without a software pack that I never had much luck with. I had to bring a paperclip with me anywhere I took my MG when I was using it more frequently for DND note taking and light writing. tanu.yokochou.com/mg/mobados_Q... Here's a decent older FAQ.
14.11.2025 23:03 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Once the app is registered and in the memory you shouldn't have to worry about doing this again as long as either your main or backup battery still has juice - I think I've only had to do this once or twice which is why my memory is so shaky on this. Also get used to resetting the PC.
14.11.2025 23:01 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Use these links from these links to transfer the app to the system memory and register the UniexitShell app. www.mobile-gear.net/howtoexe.htm www.mobile-gear.net/how_toroku.h... www.mobile-gear.net/test2.htm - These are technically for a different DOS launcher but should be the same workflow.
14.11.2025 22:58 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Anyways you'll need to make a folder called ็ป้ฒ๏ฝฟ๏พ๏พ on the flash card - the MobileGear should recognize this as the registered software folder. You'll need to get UniexitShell from a MG repository - that's the program that'll allow you to exit to the command line. Copy it into that folder.
14.11.2025 22:55 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Surprising to see lots of dead links for things that were available in the past couple years. Here's some steps that I'll be mostly guessing. You'll need a relatively small CF card + adapter or PCMCIA flash card that's been formatted for FAT16 - I've used 64/128mb Sandisk cards fine.
14.11.2025 22:50 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0It's been awhile since my first setup so I only remember parts. Basically it boils down to putting a specific DOS launcher app on a flash memory card, then using the system's email client to move the app into the usable applications in the menu system. I'll check more in depth when I get off work.
14.11.2025 20:07 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Glad to see another DoCoMo MobileGear on my timeline. Lovely little things - though I never had much luck with the CGA emulation on mine besides getting it to run Rogue and WordStar.
