Bill Evans wrote about it in his 2000 book β€œLapsing Into A Comma” but I’m pretty sure it was in use far earlier online on The WELL conferencing system.

Do you really think such a poll means anything? Do you really think it reflects reality? Do you actually think anyone who was actually polled in that poll gave straight answers?

It’s time to mute the effing word β€œpoll” from my feed once and for all.

RIP Dave Farber, 91, computer scientist, who for many years ran a popular mailing list about technology, networks, and society.

Joi Ito too, seated next to Musk. I knew him pretty well for years prior to all that.

Newspapers: None since COVID. i just scan many newspaper homepages and follow some RSS feeds but rarely read the articles due to paywalls. Occasionally read via gift links or er, …other meansπŸ˜‰

Magazines: None since COVID.

Newsletters: None, ever.

Podcasts: Happily a few, in specialty fields.

Fascinating. When I’m writing, as a rule the *only* music I listen to is instrumentalβ€”w/ the exception of any music with non-English vocsls.

I tend to work best w/ any form of electronic, dub, ambient, occasional classical. Or stuff like Kraftwerk in German, or anything Aftican.

English? no way πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Theory: Musk is easily distractable, impatient, and like a lot of tech billionaires, gets bored. β€œTesla” was never his name; the real founders picked that long before he showed up. He’s not bright enough to grok how a good brand shd be a ”verbable” noun.

”X” is perfect for one who routinely pivots.

These clowns can’t even spell β€œconfederacy.”

But they’ll try, and millions of Americans who don’t bother to vote, won’t bother to do a thing to stop it.

β€œSend Help is vintage Raimi and terrific fun”

By now I assume my inability to share, indeed, bafflement at the mere possibility of sharing, anything resembling enjoyment or even mild amusement at SEND HELP is of my own making and is solely my own problemβ€”unique across 8B humans. And yet, still: πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Yes but can you survive the 30 minutes-plus Regal forces on you, of advertisements, branding promos, junk food promos, rewards program upsells, trailers for Hollywood entertainnent product, more ads, more branding promos, more junk food promos, more upsells, and more crap trailers, before the movie?

Ok. For starters, kindly cite the evils that Steven Speilberg and George Lucasβ€”both billionairesβ€”have done (besides a few mediocre films).

One thing that tech companies would never ever ever do not in a million years was modify the company logo for a buck, to do some bizdev deal.

But this is 2026, and nobody gaf anymore I guess.

β€œWarner Bros.” can require quotes all it wants but I’m still not going to pay a cinema to see that movie nor do I have any interest in hearing Cxcxβ€˜s voice wailing with set-to-11 reverb and synths.

Heβ€˜s escaped accountability for 79 years. Heβ€˜s the Obi-Wan of accountability resistance; he just waves his hand at a court, Supreme or otherwise, at a member of Congress, at a prosecutor, at a reporter, at a media org, at a corporate CEO, and they all scurry away, compliant.

Impeach, maybe?

Also, the music seemed completeky ill-suited for this particular film. Castanets?

Also, the mix was wrong: music way too forward, while, in spots, dialogue further back.

Also, I think the casting of Foster was wrong. The script didn’t give her much to do.

A film I regretted paying to see.

Wow, A PRIVATE LIFE was not:

Hitchcockian
sophisticated
comedy
silly
fluff
zany
chemistry

What it was, was:

weird
dumb
hard-to-follow
annoying
baffling even

And the film makes one wonder:

why should anyone care
why did Jodie do this
why is her character nuts
why was this film even made
