Well imho the technical mishmash contributed to the boosting of disbelief rather than the suspension thereof. πŸ˜‰

What baffled me about this new film is its insistence on 80s vehicles, which made it seem like it was set in the same time as the ’80s version of the film. And yet the director of the new film told the press he was pleased to be able to set his version in the same year as the King book: 2025. Huh? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Saw it today. It was great! Even an INTERMISSION!

(Wouldβ€˜ve been nice if the theatre or movie itself had let audience know how long the intermission wasβ€”in advance. (It was 15 mins))

@samfragoso.bsky.social Another superb TALK EASY episode. Just a great cinema conversation. Looking forward to listening to the Renata interview next, also the 1st Trier ep, plus, I’m sold, going to watch the Scorsese documentary too.

TALK EASY: gifts galore.

So if we just get a bunch of nations to create laws requiring an Edit button, we’d have one?

Hmm… πŸ€”

I needed a new phone as the 6-yr-old old phone’s battery was mostly shot, but knowing iOS26 was coming out I raced to order a new phone before Apple installed 26 on every new purchase. So I’m blissfully still using 18 and plan to keep it that way until Apple hopefully grows a brain with 27.

β€œOverview” is such a generous term these companies use in connection with intelligence mimicry.

β€œMisrepresentation,β€œ β€œdistortion,β€β€œmisunderstanding,” β€œguess,” β€œshrug,” β€œpretense,” β€œpose,” β€œbluff,” β€œcanard” would all be more apt.

It was good but I left the cinema troubled that this was another documentary that wasn't really a documentary at all, but rather a story stitched together from scenes of life in Macedonia and the tale of the Silyan bird emerged from it, with material arranged to fit the story. Incl staged scenes. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Update: At the gig last night I read this text to the manager and asked her, laughing, please tell me this is AI. She said yeah, the person they hired to post the events listings sometimes uses ChatGPT to generate (random, meaningless, Dali-esque) description text. Mind blown. I hate AI even more πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Sometimes one must make difficult choices. Sometimes the choice isn’t difficult at all; in such instances it’s simply the right thing to do.

Ah, sweet relief. At last, a chance for peace.

I tell you NOTHING in the world tops pouring all your energy into performing music and then people get up and dance. Even when the gig is a pizza/brewery joint out in the middle of nowhere. Everybody havin’ a good time and the music’s alive? Goodamn, nothing tops it.

Now back to doomscrolling πŸ€ͺ

A great conversation. Fun to watch Krugman in real time realizing the breadth of the AI economics insanity. That said, for balance, I’d still love to see Kedrosky have a debate with a CTO-level person at one of the large AI companies. Or maybe a whole panel of such technical folks.

lol

I hear ya.

It's just weird how MANY filmmakers decided to make the SAME choice within the past 12 months. Was there like, a memo that got sent out or something?

OMG, please tell me this is Facebook AI slop. Surely no venue could describe a humble cover-song folk guitar & bass duo this way. First, it ignores Robert, the singer/guitarist, and seems centered on me. I guarantee I won't bleed the songs. I just play bass, LOL! This is a gig happening tomorrow.

Frank Gehry, legendary Canadian-American architect, dies aged 96 The architect, whose work included the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in LA, died after a brief illness

I’ll never forget the conference where Gehry joked, comparing his designs to crumpled-up pieces of paperβ€”and then did just that: crumpled a sheet of paper, tossed it on floor. Gasps from audience. You could tell some in audience were ready to kill to get it.
