I also managed to completely sabotage myself and forgot to apply to the BA round not realising this year would have been my last chance so
Wish I had an alternative option for work that felt just as fulfilling and stimulating as research does
Leverhulme internals round feels especially painful this year. Lots of "you couldn't have improved this application, but unfortunately..."
this would be such a fabulous review for @bsecs.bsky.social #Criticks if anyone is interested in doing it!
thanks for the heads-up! I moved away from notion because the db format wasn't working so happy to stick w obsidian to avoid. have found some plugins to recreate what I preferred in logseq. thanks!
my main requirement is I want it to be in clean markdown that is readable in something as simple as notepad - I'm over storing reading notes in proprietary formats
finally migrating away from evernote (or rather my old evernote backup - cancelled my sub a long time ago). stuck between #obsidian and #logseq, need to use both for a bit I think but interested to hear opinions! both have features needed so more about stability/general opinions
my brain has also been making me very unwell recently so trying to not be too hard on myself! but!
hello! I haven't posted in a while - been finding it hard to feel academic and cool when I'm now 1.5 years post-phd and feel like the only person I know not making any progress, stuck in a job I dislike, can't get myself to write, etc.
***Engagement Officer Vacancy***
We're looking for an engagement officer to act as primary point of contact for #18thC centres across the UK, and to oversee our outreach and engagement. It's a voluntary role, but associated travel & accommodation expenses are paid...

Feel like I'm going to time out of being early-career before I've even had the energy to actually try

Real question, how does anyone have the energy to even put themselves on the academic job market or write publications after the PhD... It's been 1.5 years and I still can't get out of bed
Hadn't heard back from a job and turns out they waited until Leverhulme day to send out their rejections which is a choice
for a lot of things I just default to hand sewing because generally you get it right the first time!
it is magic!! but also hell on earth honestly (this tweet brought to you by me spending 6 hours sewing in boning to a friend's dress yesterday)
Now the handover is done etc. I can finally say that I am the new @bsecs.bsky.social Criticks editor! And the first article of my tenure is already up - a fab review of BBC's Miss Austen by @philistella.bsky.social: www.bsecs.org.uk/criticks-rev...
ALSO I don't begrudge it actually, I had a great time, did well somehow and was able to complete the phd not ridiculously behind on work experience. the debt is obviously silly but I'm also silly so
(not their fault, everyone's experience should be like theirs, etc.)
me who had 3 jobs, a 2 hour round commute and 10k+ of postgrad debt listening to oxford people talking about their amazing masters year of knowledge and learning and being able to immerse completely
and I have also written an introduction to the collection for the resource. Check it out here: www.nineteenthcenturystage.amdigital.co.uk 🎭
Some of the #BradyCollection has now been digitised as part of AM Digital's new The Nineteenth Century Stage resource! I'm proud that my thesis work was able to contribute to this project 1/2
unclear if said nerve damage is from dental work or bruxism (probably a bit of both). shout out to the 100s on emergency dental consults and 2 rejected referrals to maxillofacial that didn't get me here
Was kinda hopeful for 2025 but the chronic health issue I've been dealing with since May 2023 has officially been closed as a chronic pain condition (atypical odontalgia as a result of nerve damage) so not feeling that hopeful anymore tbh
another day, another job rejection slay
When you printed a glorious knight late at night in 1489, and woke up to notice that you forgot the lance ...
#earlymodern #bookhistory #proofreading
Just found out that the cat who used to visit my flat in Oxford, and honestly, saved my life a couple times, belongs to an eighteenth century art historian and I couldn't be HAPPIER
I think its a reference to the material of the type, rather than the colour? So letter type made of silver
It's also briefly mentioned in The Printer's Grammar as being something common to Dutch printers. Silver type was apparently thought of being much neater for printing
