A large part of the respect for trams comes from the โBells of Shameโ. Oh boy! I have seen cars try passing an open tram door and get an earful -bells and loud speakers from driver, yelled at by pedestrians and tram passengers alike.

The lower density,existing car infrastructure and resultant car culture means we will face similar problems and objections to shifting to mass transit.
