Fallout doesn't reallly add up, at least not to me, mostly because the lore revolves around capitalism being detrimental and the cause of said fallout.

while I do think irl capitalism has flaws, I don't think it'll be the cause of World War III.

plus, Fallout is meant to be a brutal comedy.

but I believe it has to do with the body producing excess mucus because of colds, allergies, and other things like it, quite literally running down the throat, and causing coughs. the coughing (or sneezing) is simply getting rid of it, so it doesn't cause future problems.
