To boil resentment, racist propagandists exaggerate Black wealth with the force they exaggerate Black criminality. Black people are criminalized whether we are low income (poor people steal!), middle income (he stole that opportunity from me!), or upper income (no way she made all that legally!).

This has to been one of the most ignorant things I’ve ever heard about King. And that’s saying a lot.

Democrats should not emphasize reproductive justice since it alienates men who want to control women?

This isn’t complicated. The “colorblind approach” is not only racist. It is counterproductive, allowing Miller’s movement to advance unchecked and chain the minds that Democrats want to attract.

Democrats should not ban religious oppression since it alienates “Christians” who want to the “religious freedom” to exclude Muslim and queer Americans? Democrats should not show White men how Trump’s policies are harming them since it alienates those White men who believe the lies Miller says?

After effectively saying Democrats should not champion antiracism since it alienates racist Americans who want to plunder Black livelihoods, what political take will be next? Democrats should not extend human rights to immigrants of color since it alienates those Americans who dehumanize them?

Jilani refuses to acknowledge the fact that the Democratic Party—with an influential minority of prominent exceptions—has followed this strategy for years. Most Democrats already de-emphasize racism—a strategy that has failed to slow Miller’s movement.

[Black Americans are about three times more likely than White Americans to be impoverished].

In the end, Jilani suggests, “Across both messaging and policy, the [Democratic] party must de-emphasize” race.

3. Racism is “no longer” an “accurate” cause of why Black people are on the lower end of almost every racial inequity. Jilani’s evidence: “there are tens of millions more poor white people than Black people in the United States today.”

After describing Miller’s movement as “divisive” and “white nationalist,” Jilani repeated or implied three talking points Miller has pushed for years:

1. Policies reducing racial inequity harm White people
2. White people should see Black political organizing as anti-White

An op-ed in the NYT by Zaid Jilani argues that the best way for Democrats to combat the “white identity movement that empowers the Stephen Millers of the world” is to pursue “a colorblind approach to politics.”

To position immigrant *and* indigenous peoples of color as “aliens” and “terrorists” who are threatening and displacing White people. To convince White people they need authoritarians to protect them.

How are ICE agents kidnapping Native Americans? A persisting claim of great replacement theorists: White people are indigenous to the nation. These propagandists have articulated this idea (and religious and ethnic derivations) in the United States, Australia, Israel, South Africa, and elsewhere.

First it was ban books, like @ibramxk.bsky.social's 'How to be an Antiracist.
Then it was don't say Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
Now it's, 'you have an accent, show me your papers?'
When do we just call it what it is, Government sponsored racism?
