Today we are celebrating the achievements and endeavours of women and girls in science. Recognised or not, their work has been essential to scientific progress. Often ground breaking, sometimes overlooked, but always impactful.

It was a fantastic workshop with a great instructor! I highly recommend it to anyone who would like to use Git for their research!
Already missing this office…Had a great time during my short-term research visit @visualattentionlab.bsky.social and in Boston.

Meet our visiting Grad Student Ecem!
She is Ph.D. candidate in Neuroscience at the University of Würzburg, studying attentional and learning processes in fear conditioning. At VAL, she focuses on visual foraging under threat, manipulating the spatial distribution of threat and value of targets.
Sadly learned of the passing of Prof. Margaret Boden, an inspiring thinker.
Grateful I had the chance to listen to her talk 7 years ago at the "2018 Religion & Science Conference: AI & Consciousness", organized by Cambridge Muslim College.
I found the video, highly recommend it:

New paper out! Here we show that attentional biases induced by reward history depend on awareness of such reward history (w/ @jlupiane.bsky.social and @mavadillo.bsky.social).

As somebody who studies self-control (but is bad at it), I read this 2025 open-access review on the self-control of eating (tinyurl.com/bdnebw79) by Mann & Ward w/ great personal interest. I highly recommend it, esp. if you study self-control and/or want to deal w/ your eating regulation challenges.

2/ Today, I’ll be giving a talk there as a PhD student. It means a lot to return to the place where my curiosity for science truly began. I’m grateful to my former supervisor, @mattlongo.bsky.social not only for the kind invitation and for staying in touch all these years, but also for his guidance.
1/ Exactly 9 years ago, I did my very first international lab internship as a curious, naive undergraduate student at Body Representation Lab @birkbeckpsychology.bsky.social. It was my very first hands-on research experience and one of the reasons I chose to pursue an academic path.
New paper in Imaging Neuroscience by Yannik Stegmann and Matthias Gamer:
The impact of inherently aversive contexts on visuocortical processing of generalized threat

I read a really old article on broad and narrow attention by Wachtel (1967), and I found this sentence deeply relatable "...the extremely anxious individual becomes a slave to minor variations in the perceptual field, which demand most of his attention and leave him confused and disorganized."

I often want to sketch something, but most sites want one to register, no time, just Draw Draw Draw!
Less than a week left to apply for this PhD studentship in my lab at @birkbeckpsychology.bsky.social !
Deadline Sun 6th July
I had pleasure of co-organizing my very first symposium together with my supervisor @gamerlab.bsky.social.
A heartfelt thank you to all the amazing speakers @ondrejzika.bsky.social, @francescotortora.bsky.social, @ldeserno.bsky.social, @floriansch and participants for their contributions.
