On today’s episode of Hey Not the Face! we have @boxing-esq.bsky.social on with us to discuss what works & doesn’t work about the current Ali Act, what problems in boxing does the proposed bill to revive American boxing addresses, & much more.

Talked about the proposed amendment to the Ali Act with
@erikmagraken.bsky.social on the latest Boxing Esq. Podcast. We got into how involved (or not involved) the ABC was in crafting the bill. Enjoy!

Finally cranked out a new podcast. My guest is the great writer
Jose Corpas. We talk about his new book - The 4-Belt Error. Great discussion about the structure of boxing throughout its history and how older fighters are given short shrift for not being "champions".

Went to see Dean Wareham (former Luna and Galaxie 500 frontman) play at Bowery Ballroom this Saturday. Great show. I sang along with every song. Good times.
I was on the Sports Lawyers Association podcast with @boxing-esq.bsky.social discussing Riyadh Season taking over #boxing open.spotify.com/episode/2XAc...
This will be out in July. Along with the sensational disco/soul album of the same name.

John Nash is my guest on the pod. We discuss the "boxing league" that Turki-Dana-Nick cooked up. We get into what exactly the "league" is, how it fits in with other Turkiverse events, the Ali Act & what the plans may be for the future.

Honored to have @ericraskin.bsky.social do a profile of me for Boxing Scene.
So boxing beat the NFL on Netflix. Such a shame the powers that be in boxing don’t work together to package a product to the networks where the best fight the best on a regular basis. They could command huge money on multiple networks & push the sport forward.

This week's pod guest is Tom Loeffler of 360 Promotions. We discussed Tom’s upcoming show on Friday, Serhii Bohachuk, Tom’s relationship with Dana White & how UFC Fight Pass has helped develop his fighters & what he thinks of Wlad’s rumored comeback.

That guy’s a maniac. You should permanently ban him from the show.
Had a great time on John’s pod talking about a variety of subjects across Boxing and MMA - check it out.
So psyched to see Yukimi Nagano (Little Dragon) in her first US solo show. Really fun show. Can’t wait to hear the new album. What she played of it was great.
My favorite smoothie place with authentic Mexican dishes - Don Pepe Tortas & Jugos in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Not sure if the smoothies will actually cure your hangover, headache or diabetes - but they’ll most definitely taste good and make you feel better.

Been sitting around watching Tim Robinson shows (I Think You Should Leave, Detroiters) with my daughters all day. Good times - dude is funny as hell.
I was into Trip-Hop - still love Massive Attack.
Nice! 6 Underground was on a lot of my “MiniDisc” mixes back in the mid-90s.
Great soundtrack that my brother turned me on to in my early teens as I discovered punk/new wave. It’s frustrating that Spotify hasn’t licensed this album because my favorite song on it, XTC’s “Take This Town” (the only song recorded specifically for the soundtrack), isn’t available.
Peter Garrett, Jalen Rose, PJ Harvey, Aubrey Plaza, Anthony Bourdain
I hear you for sure on TR and PBC. Don’t know what the future holds for either. Definitely not a banner year for US boxing in 2024. Biggest event was Jake freakin’ Paul and the ghost of Mike Tyson. That sucks.
Seeing a ton of great fights going to Riyadh again. Definitely mixed feelings about it. Glad to see great matchups happening in the sport. But having the fights so far away from where any of the fighters are based - just doesn’t seem right. You lose something without a home crowd.
Great choices Melissa Jo. I love the Trainspotting soundtrack.
I'd say my top five are:
1. Taxi Driver
2. Trainspotting
3. Rushmore
4. Elevator to the Gallows
5. Pina
Honorable Mention: Pulp Fiction, Repo Man, Blowup, Superfly, Easy Rider, The Harder They Come, Liquid Sky, A Clockwork Orange
And another thing . . . I wouldn't be surprised to see Top Rank bring Inoue over here sometime in April. Probably be in Vegas and most likely on a weekend when the Dodgers are at home. Just sayin'.
Be on the lookout for some big announcements tomorrow for the February 22 show in Riyadh. Definitely, some good heavyweight fights coming up.
My guest is @brinjonathanbutler.bsky.social on this week’s pod. Brin has written extensively on Tyson & we discussed the Tyson-Paul fight & Tyson’s allure after all these years. We also spoke about Brin’s interview with Oleksandr Usyk & Conor McGregor’s court case.

Also wanted to mention Duarte-Akhmedov from the Latino Night card, a real grinder. That's a solid main event or co-main on another card. At Ring City, we were always trying to cook up Central Asian/Eastern Euro vs. Mexican fights because the styles mesh so well for TV. Deep card today.
Latino Night delivered! Zurdo just a step ahead of CBS all night - landing the more eye-catching shots. Barboza's length and quickness too much for Ramirez. Farmer giving Zepeda all he could handle, incl. a KD. Collazo unifying in impressive fashion. Big night for GB! Kudos!
I know he’s overcome a lot to get where he is, but Mauro annoys the hell out of me . . .
