The exhibition tells the story of what happened next, exploring the work of our conservation team to make the First Folio accessible again. Visit to see a rare and important cultural artefact and experience a rare book as you’ve never seen it before.

Stolen in 1998 along with six other items, the Folio was missing for a decade until 2008, when a badly damaged copy surfaced at the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington D.C. Experts quickly confirmed it was Durham’s lost treasure, and it was returned home 💜
