Human case of avian flu detected in England UKHSA confirms rare case of bird flu (H5N1) in the West Midlands region.

The UK reported a human case of H5N1 - a poultry in the Midlands - today.

It’s genotype D1.2, distinct from the B3.13 seen in the US in cows and (most) birds. D1.2 is circulating globally in wild birds, so the transmission chain of wild bird -> poultry -> poultry worker is much more typical. 🧪
