While probably doesn't understand what a tenth is yet, she did help me estimate the height of the giant, and we debated whether the giant could walk a mile in 7 extra big steps if the giant wanted to. Also, I had to go to great lengths to assure her that the giant was strictly hypothetical.

At the start of our walk to school this morning, the 6yo asked me if we had to walk a mile. I told her the walk was about 7/10 of a mile, and she replied that she didn't know what a tenth is. So I said, "Imagine a giant who can walk a mile in 10 steps..." Can you spot my pedagogical error?

I am hurt myself playing "down low, too slow!"-years old.

Every time someone posts a picture one of these on the spider Is subreddit, the comments are hilarious.

Though I'll add that in more than a handful of cases, the pictures on Reddit were in the US, and the spiders came in fruit (usually bananas). So this threat is not as distant as we'd like.

I dunno if this discourse is happening over here, but a dude with a substack has broken Twitter with posts on Continental philosophy.

I participated in this very debate long ago, the exact same points were made on both sides, the same insults were hurled in both directions, and then I got the fuck out of philosophy like any responsible person should.

Every generation of philosophy grad students needs to have the Analytic vs Continental debate. It is a rite of passage, a necessary step along path to understanding that they should probably have gone into a different field.
