Varndean College Feminist Society's Cake and Lemonade Sale was held today to celebrate International Women's Day 2025.

Supported by both staff and students, the sale was a real success, with the money raised to be donated to the Brighton Women's Centre.

More than forty students of Classical Civilisation and Philosophy went on a trip to Greece in early February. The sunny weather fueled expeditions to awe-inspiring sites, like the Acropolis in Athens, the remains of the fortified citadel of Mycenae, the 'spa' complex at Epidavros.

CONSTELLATION is a free exhibition opening soon at Gallery 19a. It celebrates Year 1 A Level and IB work from Art,Textiles, Graphic Design and 3D Design and has been curated by a group of Year 1 students doing their ART CURATOR enrichment course.

This Friday marks the launch of our Festival of Careers in collaboration with FE Sussex! Kicking off the series, scuba diver Gio Prince and Paralympian Will Bayley will be delivering inspiring talks as part of the first of five dynamic speaker and workshop sessions.

Yesterday evening four Varndean College Year 1 students took part in the Oxford Union Schools Debating Competition at Ibstock Place School in Roehampton.

Taking on teams from prestigious independent schools, they all did brilliantly and absolutely loved the experience.

Our Sociology students recently took a trip to UCL for a conference where sociologists talked about their research on a variety of topics including urban youth and schooling, health inequalities and LGBTQ+ groups, and the experiences of Afghan children being resettled in the UK.

Former student Josh Tarzi visited our Music Production Year 1 group yesterday to speak about carving out a career in the music industry.

With BBC Radio 1 plays, a Select Radio slot, and a role at Fabric, Josh shared invaluable insights on promotion, networking, and grant funding.

Some very festive Health & Social Care students volunteered to help raise money for local charities on the Santa Bus in Saltdean recently. Great fun had by all and lots of money raised for local charities!

Great to welcome Professor Ben Selwyn from the University of Sussex talking all things International Relations to 40 of our @varndean.ac.uk Politics students this lunchtime. Thank you for your time and for inspiring our students to think more about global political issues.

Our Foundation Year Childcare students had a great day at Drusillas this week. Discussing how to assess risks for children visiting the zoo, the students are now planning activities and risk assessments that would be suitable for young children as part of their coursework.
