Stories are not actually very good from a writing perspective. And the ones that ARE really truly offering a great story, are almost always doing so BECAUSE of the interaction with the player. Usually by having to get your head around systems.

It’s not that this is wrong per se or that everyone needs to “gitgud”. But I can’t help but think if you want to “experience the good stories” without having to learn the systems or engage with the game, you’d be much better served reading a book. Probably unpopular to say but the best video game
