Today marks 24 years since Brian Moore passed away. This was ITV’s moving tribute to him shortly after his death.
He will always be remembered as one of the greatest football commentators/presenters we’ve ever had.
A true gentleman of the game. ❤️
It’s 34 years to the day since this remarkable sequence of chances ended with an Anders Limpar goal against Man City.
Things to love here:
Highbury
Brian Moore on comms
Tony Coton’s save
The cameraman struggling to keep up as the ball flies everywhere
Fantastic stuff.
On the 28th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death, a reminder of an emotionally charged Wembley before England’s match with Moldova ten days later.
Here the crowd listen to ‘Candle In The Wind’ and impeccably observe the minute silence.
Different times…
Rumbelows Cup first round second leg action from tonight in 1991, as Hull City’s Leigh Jenkinson scores a breakaway goal to defeat Blackburn Rovers.
Later that season, Jenkinson went on to make the Sprint Challenge final at Wembley.
(Love the excited local commentator here. 👏🏻)

28 years ago this week, Dennis Bergkamp was awarded a historic 1st, 2nd and 3rd finish for Goal Of The Month.
Here are all ten contenders from that August, which includes two incredible Benito Carbone efforts.
But what a trio of goals from the Dutchman…

Classic opening day of the season Saint & Greavsie, from this week in 1988.
After ITV spent a fortune in the summer on exclusive rights for live First Division matches, Jimmy Greaves immediately starts complaining about the state of the studio…
It’s 36 years to the day since this reckless Paul Gascoigne tackle on Paul Lake at Maine Road.
Understandably, the Manchester City man is fuming with the challenge. But Gazza just responds with a classic playground insult…
Back-pass action from this week in 1992, as the new rule went into its second weekend in the Premier League.
Dave Beasant doesn’t know if he can pick the ball up, Tim Flowers forgets to kick it, and Nigel Spink resorts to using his head.
Glorious chaos.

35 years ago today, Derby County kicked off their doomed 1990/91 season, which resulted in relegation from the First Division.
Unfortunately, it was also a campaign to forget for their 41-year-old goalkeeper, Peter Shilton…
This week in 1989, Match Of The Day celebrated its 25th birthday with a special show looking back over the years.
During the broadcast, Barry Davies asked Jimmy Hill about the impact that television has had on football.
As usual, Hill was on the money.

On this day in 1996, Wimbledon suffered one of the worst offside decisions in Premier League history at St James’ Park.
Sensationally shite officiating.

On this day in 1991:
Bramall Lane, John Pemberton, and an acrobatic throw-in for the ages…
It’s 34 years to the day since Sheffield United pulled off one of the best corner kick routines you’re ever likely to see against West Ham.
I love it when a plan comes together…
