A Minnesota woman observing ICE agents in her car was cornered on one-way streets. An agent approached, called her by name—citing facial recognition. Days later, her Global Entry and TSA privileges were revoked, with no explanation.
Getting sympathetic press coverage is a key way to continuing to win the messaging war here too. Shutting out the press just cedes the field of the national press to the right wing. There’s no doubt that folks should be thoughtful about which outlets to trust, but a blanket ban seems shortsighted.

It will only get worse too as the pipeline of talented law students and attorneys a few years into practice dries up. Why take a pay cut to have to prosecute the president’s enemies? Even cynical lawyers who don’t care about the morality won’t want the professional stain the rest of their careers.
What a waste of city time and resources. Cars are many times more dangerous to pedestrians, other cars, and bicyclists than e-bikes, and there is a complete culture of impunity around them.

Going independent has meant having the freedom to say that ICE is kidnapping people, to describe our government as authoritarian, and to say more directly when fascism is happening.
I hope we'll start to see this more in large newsrooms before it's too late.

this thread is such a great example of this tendency. instead of just arguing against the thing you don't like ("I think we should be allowed to drive over the speed limit") making up a bunch of other objections that you don't actually believe but you think sound more sympathetic

Adams must be removed. The city cannot sustain being governed for nearly a year by a Mayor who is being coerced by Trump admin in order to escape charges.
This corruption poses a real threat to the people of the city. He should have resigned a while ago, but will not. So it’s time for him to go.
