I hid my LGBTQ identity from virtually everyone until the end of grad school. Always looking back to make sure I was safe and fear of rejection and ridicule, pretending to be straight wore me down.
I think if this persists then the bars will have to be reset on rank and tenure committees. In discussions here we have rules baked in for extraordinary circumstances (e.g., stop the clock) that may be temporary measures.
Thanks for compiling - this is truly alarming. The ripple effects will be felt for years to come.
