The Martinez shooting was a moment when organizational leaders could have stepped in, asserting some basic professional standards and accountability. But the leaders are feeding the corrupt culture, signaling their support for violence. Greg Bovino texted the agent, saying: “In light of your excellent service in Chicago, you have much yet left to do!!” Fellow agents celebrated the shooter. One asked “Are they supportive?” about senior government officials. Exum responded: “Big time. Everyone has been including Chief Bovino, Chief Banks, Sec Noem and El Jefe himself … according to Bovino.”

Who do you think El Jefe is?

I've been updating this piece about the Martinez shooting in Chicago, which previewed the Minnesota killings. The organizational culture is completely broken in ICE/CBP. The shooter was told everyone at the senior levels of the Trump admin supported him.

Sadly, soon after the war the US was busy protecting Nazi judges and importing Nazi scientists to “fight communism”. So-called realism, sadly.

Teach the Dems that lesson! The so-called leaders want to be “realistic” and give up the leverage the shutdown created to refuse reauthorization of ICE and DHS, DoJ.

As someone who owes my career in many ways to the opportunities the UNC (then) Latin American Studies Center offered me as a graduate student, this news is incredibly sad.

Incredible @statuscoupnews.bsky.social interview with Skye, who says she’s a Marine Corps vet and appears to have just been released from Whipple. She says she was trapped by ICE, yanked out of her car and stomped on.

DHS agents murdered someone in Minneapolis today for filming them. Everything DHS did in L.A. happened in Chicago. Everything that happened in Chicago is happening right now in Minneapolis. It's coming to your city next.

This is an administration that has pardoned its supporters who attacked the Capitol to try to overturn an election, but will defend the killing of protestors they dislike.

Show up, create chaos, scare the shit out of the citizens, and when one freaks out and tries to run, shoot her. The death penalty for disobeying ICE.
Then, when you go to court, lie about how "in danger" you felt.
Didn't we just claim we rescued Venezuela from a dictator attacking his own citizens?

Maybe if you had covered the last woman shot and killed

Or given daily coverage to the violence

Covered when they shot priests, protesters, and reporters

We would be elsewhere

Department of Homeland Security officials said the driver, Silverio Villegas-Gonzalez, hit and dragged one of the officers a significant distance with his car as he tried to flee the scene and had “seriously injured” the officer, who shot and killed him in self-defense.

Local officials and immigrant advocates say the death of Mr. Villegas-Gonzalez, a Mexican immigrant, was unwarranted and reflects a dangerous escalation of arrest tactics amid an aggressive federal operation in the Chicago area. Mr. Villegas-Gonzalez appeared to be unarmed and officials have not said that he had any weapons or a criminal record beyond traffic offenses.

Videos from the scene and its aftermath call into question two aspects of the D.H.S. description of events: Mr. Villegas-Gonzalez is not shown hitting either officer with his car; and, in the aftermath, one of the officers says his own injuries are “nothing major.”

The claim that the shooter in Minnesota was injured and needed to be treated is undermined by a) he was seen walking away from the shooting, seemingly fine, and b) this is the same line the administration used to justify another DHS killing. Its a playbook. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

The government is saying that violence rules. That snatching foreign leaders and territories, and shooting US citizens in their cars at point blank range, is justified. That resistance is not only futile, it is dangerous. They can say these things. But they cannot force us to believe them.

I think the evidence is overwhelming. Have the Fox watchers seen none of it? Or are they still into worshiping whatever the gilt-clad idiot says however absurd? What do folks think when someone says prices have gone down 1000% (when100% is free)?

To all state law enforcement:
ICE and other federal agencies are giving you a bad reputation.

Remember, you work for and serve the people in your charge.
Treat them as you want them to treat you...
As for ICE, a bunch of want to be mall cops with a dictator in charge.
Their reckoning will come.
