Conversations with journal editors about language in manuscripts submitted - concern for the authors' safety, scientific credibility, the potential for career impact... all due to "banned words."

Is this real life?

Is the an "Orwellian Manual of Style" we can adhere to?

I’ve cared for infants who stopped breathing w/ pertussis.

School aged kids who died of flu or COVID.

And many of my patients can’t be vaccinated because they’re on chemotherapy or are immune compromised.

Vaccinations save lives of those who get them & those who cannot.

It’s that simple.

It’s my understanding (and my understanding is routinely incomplete, so please someone wiser check my work) that serum iron is far less reliable as an indicator - mostly reflects your dietary iron over the past day or two rather than indicating sufficiency or deficiency overall?

Sometimes the combination of arrogance and ignorance is breathtaking. Yes, US health care has high admin costs; that's because it relies so much on private insurers. Govt-run health insurance has much lower overhead

As the Supreme Court debates trans kids' right to essential healthcare, today is a good day to ruminate on the fact that the United States is the ONLY UN member state not to have ratified the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

And the converse is true too - all the more reason for excellent training in acute/emergency care for pediatricians. The withering of EM experience for pediatrics trainees is a travesty.

All the more reason for excellent training in pediatrics in emergency medicine.

Crucial for acute care of children.
