The idea "Americans won't care until it affects gas prices" is perpetuated not through actual experience, but because PEOPLE LIKE US REPEAT IT ENDLESSLY WHILE OTHER PEOPLE LIKE US SIGH IN CONTEMPT AND NOD OUR HEADS.

It is NOT TRUE IN ANY EMPIRICALLY OBSERVABLE WAY.

Another open-book test of spine and moral backbone that will be failed en masse by the people who are supposed to be watchdogs of democracy.

You turn down invites from Nazis, kids. It’s the easiest call to make. Imagine if Trump walked into a room empty aside from ten Fox News clowns.

Arresting Black journalists is also vice signaling. Their base is racist and hates journalists and they want to get them excited again. The mainstream media industry has never protected Black journalists or journalists of color the way it should.

Bruce Springsteen - Streets Of Minneapolis (Official Audio) YouTube video by Bruce Springsteen

I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

I've stayed out of speaking on politics because I really don't understand it. I knew I didn't when yards once filled with flags of sports teams or child achievements were replaced with a person's favorite politician. I knew l didn't understand it when I could no longer have civil conversations with long time friends because views were being pushed on me. I've always sat somewhere in the middle and could understand the points raised by both sides but those were personal then and politics is not kept personal or confidential anymore. kole_calho... • 3h | Follow

What this administration is doing when it comes to immigration is blatantly racist, targeting people based on the color of their skin or the sound of their last name. There is a much more civilized way to do this that involves working together with state officials as opposed to inserting the administrations will on a state whose citizens have stood up for their neighbors and said this is not right! kole_calho... • 3h

I've been silent because that is easy. But silence is a privilege and silence is complicit. Standing up and speaking for what you believe in takes courage. I don't care about what side you're on or who you voted for, this is wrong. This is wrong and is imposing on the basic freedoms we have in the country. Wake up! Speak out!

Former MLB OF Kole Calhoun speaks out. “What this administration is doing is blatantly racist…I’ve been silent because that is easy. I don’t care what side you’re on or who you voted for, this is wrong… Wake up! Speak out!”

Just staggered by the complete moral void of not even *pretending* to wait for more information before pivoting to “the opponent of the state deserved it.” It is so insanely depraved. Soulless.

Per his colleagues: The victim’s name was apparently Alex Pretti and he was an ICU nurse caring for severely injured veterans at the VA Hospital. He was acting as an observer, filming the raid. Any suggestion that he was there with violence on his mind is horrific gaslighting.

Of all the competitive authoritarian developments of the past year I think the fall of CBS News is among the most chilling. That this can happen to easily and so quickly freaks me the fuck out.

The cable, sent to all U.S. missions on December 2, orders U.S. consular officers to review resumes or LinkedIn profiles of H-1B applicants - and family members who would be traveling with them - to see if they have worked in areas that include activities such as misinformation, disinformation, content moderation, fact-checking, compliance and online safety, among others.

Holy shit.

Reuters reporting that new admin instructions on visas are if you worked at a platform in trust & safety or content moderation or on fact checking or online safety at an platform you *and your loved ones* are ineligible for H-1B visa.

Screenshot from Ernest Ramirez X account. He is posing with Tracey Beth Hoeg and another woman at FDA. In one of the two pictures there is a sign on his back saying his son was killed by Pfizer's vaccine. Pfizer logo is covered with bloody handprint.

Perhaps apropos. In a 1939 internal note, NBC regretted *not* censoring announcer Walter Winchell after he called Hitler a "madman".

I know: he’s a racist authoritarian who’s running a militantly racist government constantly doing and saying racist things, carrying out a highly militarized campaign of ethnic cleansing and also doing anti diversity crackdown all over the place. And yet…his racist rhetoric IS getting worse, somehow

I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

A screenshot of a Facebook post where a person named Andy ask the Well now “What the hell is transgender?”
The Royal Canadian Air Force account response with “That’s a pretty big question asked in a pretty small way, Andy.

‘Transgender’ putting describes someone whose gender – who they know themselves to be – doesn’t match the sex they were assigned at birth. It’s not new, and it’s certainly not a fad. People have lived this experience for as long as people have existed; we’re just finally talking about it openly.

You don’t have to fully understand it right away, most learning takes time, but we can always start from a place of respect. That’s how decent folks handle things they’re still getting used to.”

Massive shoutout out to whoever handles the Royal Canadian Air Force’s social media account. They responded to every single comment on their already very solid Trans Day of Remembrance post and they responded like this…

On TV shows, we love to arc a villian — force the bad guy to team up with the good guys and follow that character on a path to redemption. It’s fun, but it’s fiction.

In real life, villains rarely arc. Racists stay racist. Monsters stay monsters. If someone says they’ve changed, be real suspicious.
