Because we have to be better than this. We can have empathy for a human being getting shot in front of his family while simultaneously abhorring everything he said and stood for. We are intelligent enough to hold those at the same time. We can be glad he’s gone while condemning how it happened.

I cannot help but think, were the situation reversed, Kirk’s commentary would be quite different. And not just because he despised empathy.
