Ship collision risk threatens whales across the world’s oceans After the near-complete cessation of commercial whaling, ship collisions have emerged as a primary threat to large whales, but knowledge of collision risk is lacking across most of the world’s oceans....

Despite ship collisions being a major threat for whales, #MexicoPacific and #ProyectoSaguaro pretend to export gas through the Gulf of California, UNESCO World Heritage , to sell cheap gas to China, sacrificing biodiversity for profit www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

The Harms of US LNG - From Calcasieu Pass to Puerto Libertad - Oilfield Witness The U.S. is working hard to get the rest of the world hooked on expensive and dirty liquefied natural gas (LNG) and is getting plenty of help from the banking system in other countries like Japan. The...

#ProyectoSaguaro #GasExportation #MexicoPacific Research shows that “ship collisions are now a leading cause of death worldwide for large whale species.” Will Mexico risk the beauty and biodiversity of the Gulf of California to let foreign actors get rich shipping dirty Texas gas to China?

YouTube video by jefillysh El proyecto que amenaza a México. (Documental)

9/ We hope this research sheds light on the dynamics of pathogens in #naturalEcosystems and the often-overlooked #wildCropRelatives and #WildHosts. Let’s keep exploring these untamed systems! 💡 #PlantPathology #EvolutionaryBiology

8/ Thanks to @newphyt.bsky.social , we shared the abstract in Farsi to honor Iran, where the pathogen was collected, and the contributions of our Iranian co-authors. 🌍✍️

7/ Shoutout to Vic Flores for the stunning microscopy images showing similar disease progression timelines on wild and domesticated hosts. Beauty truly is in the eye of the observer! 🖼️

6/ Genome analysis of 42 Z. passerinii isolates revealed accessory chromosomes and host specialization driven by strong population structure, as supported by cross-virulence assays. 🧬

5/ We identified Hordeum bulbosum and Hordeum murinum as new hosts for this pathogen. In fact, we established a fascinating pathosystem using H. murinum from Armenia, a neighbor of Iran. 🌱

4/ Cultivating isolates from wild hosts was a learning curve. Unlike lab-adapted isolates, these wild samples didn’t grow as readily under standard conditions. But persistence paid off!
