You can say what you like about this young woman but she's got more guts than that complicit bastard Starmer and his pussyfooting media.

Labour are failing us on equality. @councillorq.bsky.social knows that the threat to our communities is not arriving by small boat, but by private jet.

Asma Alam recalls her family experience - bricks thrown threw windows etc, back in days when racism was more overt.
She thought this would never happen again... but it is.

Green Councillor Hau-Yu shared her fears for her constituents - migrant workers who have been racially abused since last summer's riots, following Keir Starmer's immigration speech.

@mothinali.bsky.social reminds us that immigrants are people, “like my father and grandfather who came here to build this country literally back up from the ashes …”
He condemns Starmer’s rhetoric, “people are struggling,” demanding that real issues are addressed.

We have seen pushback by Labour MPs and we stand in solidarity with them. As Global Majority Greens, our doors are open for conversation.

The Green Party stands for a world without borders. Until this happens the Green Party will implement a fair and humane system of managed immigration where people can travel if they wish to do so.

We cannot close our borders while our government arms wars and supports  genocide elsewhere, creating refugees fleeing from conflict.

We cannot close our borders while backing down on our climate change obligations, creating refugees fleeing from famine and extreme weather disasters.

We call upon the Labour government to withdraw its proposed immigration rules which are inhumane, unfair and unachievable for many.

The government needs to be lead by what's right, just and needed to support a sustainable UK economy to the betterment of all who live here.

The Prime Minister speaks of educating our own people, while ignoring the fact that universities are shutting down departments and laying off staff due to the drop in international student fees - thanks to harsh immigration rules and the effects of Brexit. Foreign students and their dependents contribute to local economies of where they live, especially local businesses.

Immigrants pay taxes and pay substantial NHS levies in order to receive healthcare. They do not qualify for benefits. Immigrants put more into this country than they receive and we would be worse off without migration.

Cutting down on immigration makes no sense, unless the Prime Minister is supporting the far right. He is however, distracting the public from the real and urgent need - The government should be investing in public services and education, not continuing the Tory pledge to austerity.

Fairly taxing the UK millionaires and billionaires, individuals and corporations, would fund the proper investment needed to restart the NHS and our education services.

What is alarming about the Prime Minister’s dog whistle speech? People of the global majority in the UK are feeling more unsafe since last summer’s racial riots and the rise of Reform in the recent local elections. What we need right now is a leader who truly understands the need for multiracial unity in our diverse society. Not someone who echoes Enoch Powell.

We become strangers when the government cuts back on community services, council house building, sports, arts, preventing access to a full life, by making public transport expensive, cutting back PIPs, and social care.

Becoming strangers has nothing to do with immigration. Migrants, foreigners, anyone who is Black or brown is made out to be the scapegoats for the economic and social policy failures of the current government. This is racism.

But, we all know that Capitalism depends on a racist, class based, divided society in order to survive and prosper.

Our families and communities have integrated and contribute to the nation through our work, taxes and service to our constituents. We have no doubt that future migrants will do the same.

The fact is, that migration is needed for the growth the Prime Minister constantly speaks of. Today, England and Wales’ birth rate stands at 1.44. For an economy to be sustained, a birth rate of 2.1 is required. Migration is a requirement for economic stability.

The proposed rules on immigration in the name of “taking back control of our borders” hurts those among the most marginalised and vulnerable in the UK: the elderly, disabled people and people with serious illnesses, by depleting the staff working in the services they most rely on.

27% of NHS nurses are immigrants. 32% of carers are immigrants. Take them away and our health and social care services would fail.

"We become strangers when the government cuts back on community services, council house building, sports, arts, preventing access to a full life, by making public transport expensive, cutting back PIPs, and social care.

Global Majority Greens Statement on Keir Starmer’s Immigration Speech

The Global Majority Greens find the Prime Minister’s racist immigration speech made on Monday to be an example of a government that is deflecting from its own incompetence in managing the country’s economy.

He said, “we risk becoming an island of strangers. Not a nation that walks forward together”.

It is migration that has helped make this country a success, especially after World War II.

How quickly the Government forgets…The 1948 Nationality Act gave British Citizenship to all members of the British Empire and their descendants who were invited to the UK to help rebuild the Nation, and we did.

Many of us in the Green Party are descended from people who came to the UK from India, Nigeria, Jamaica, Pakistan, St Kitts, Australia, Kenya, Malaysia, Germany, Trinidad & Tobago, Somalia (and more!). Some of us migrated here.

The Prime Minister’s statement that “we risk becoming an island of strangers, not a nation that walks forward together” is not only wrong. It is dangerous and divisive - inviting racist abuse towards those of us living here.

🤦‍♂️ So Labour are making ads boasting about deportations, with Reform-style branding.

Why are Labour trying to be like Farage and his mates?

If only the Government put as much effort into creating a fast, fair and dignified asylum system.
