You're right. No one seemed to realise (or were prepared to acknowledge) back in 2016 that Thatcher had negotiated an amazing deal for the UK ... the Remain campaign was a total dud.

So, this sort of thing discredits governments and further reduces the humanity in political leadership. Thinking through the unintended consequences (incl the heartache and anguish of the 'victims') should be a govt imperative. Citizenship & community vs consumerism - trust over dehumanisation.
After the constant sleaze of the Tories, it was important that Starmer appeared ethically clean as a whistle. Unfortunately, he has not managed that, and it is now blowing back at him. A shame, really. He'll survive, but - like winter fuel et al - he's damaged goods.

Not-for-profit is insufficient: organisations which support our health and social care system should be not-for-dividend. The distinction is important because the latter enables all surplus to remain in the sector rather than being moved into shareholder coffers.
What an utter moron. The negotiations were, apparently, on the cusp of achieving an acceptable arrangement. But, because this would not have suited Israel's agenda, bombing was the chosen approach.

I agree with this sentiment and add: wasn't this also true for Gaza? and Syria? - We weren't very active in backing the population during the days of the Israeli bombardment and war crimes. Consistency would be nice.
Well, yes and: we've flogged off our infrastructure (Thatcher / Major), outsourced food supplies and defence and lack leadership that has a long-term focus. Solutions: aggressively invest in renewables, rebuild UK farming and buy back our power / water / telecoms infrastructure. We need #resilience!
