Led to a good discussion about identity and name and whether that we'd find that distressing (as happened to the guy in the bar) or playful and free. I've always thought the latter and for her my friend felt the opposite; talking through that was unexpectedly clarifying!

Unfortunately I read The Night Circus as an e-book way back in the day, so I don't have an actual record of how I felt or what I made of the ending as I read it.
All of the sudden I found myself revisiting the end of Erin Morgenstern's great book The Night Circus and how its ending can speak to trying to be part of the whole world vs making your space in a community. Made for a surprising and vaguely profound shower today 😅
