Yeah basically fanfic. My understanding is that it's very cringe inducing
Ugh
I'm clearly biased, but I still think those Santa stories should have featured Superman instead of Batman
1. I love Superman
2. I love Santa Claus
3. Morrison's and Mora's Klaus almost feels like an Elseworlds Superman
The head sculpt/paint on Mcfarlane's Action #1 figure is growing on me. This photo from an eBay listing makes the face look better than the actual promo photo
I bought the first issue of Identity Crisis when it came out. I was in my late 20s, bought it on my way to work, read it in the break room and cried a little. Next month I bought issue 2 and noped out with the Dr Light revelation
I doubt they'd even have known Marvel Sandman. I think everything they knew about Superheroes came from the Super Friends and Batman '66, and just general merchandising. We were so far out in the country we didn't get the Amazing Spider Friends or reruns of the 60s cartoons
The 00s must have been a rough time for you
When we'd play superheroes on the playground in 2nd grade, the casuals were like "I'm Spider-Man" or "I'm Batman", and I was like "I'M SANDMAN!". Of course everyone else was like "Who??"
That was definitely me in my late 80s X-Men phase. In the early 80s I found this paperback sized digest collection of Kirby Sandman stories and I was completely obsessed with it for about a year
When you get past Future State, I HIGHLY recommend Johnson's Warworld Saga in Action Comics, and the Warworld Future State two parter is a fun alternate future prelude to that arc
I remember being that kind of foolish 80s youth that didn't appreciate Kirby
I'm so excited for you that you're reading Future State for the first time. The Superman: Warworld, House of El, Imperius Lex, Batman/Superman, and Wonder Woman issues are SO good
That...is a new one
Putting yourself on the wrong side of Kirby is not a winning strategy in the court of fandom public opinion
Ah. Given the source it wouldn't surprise me if it's bootleg. Still... it's pretty cool
While I'll always appreciate Byrne laying the groundwork for the Post-Crisis mythology, I think the best thing I could have done for the franchise was leave it, especially after that Barda/Mister Miracle two part story in Action Comics
@fobpodcasts.bsky.social any ideas?
This was Byrne's last story before he left the books over creative differences, and I could be mistaken, but my theory is that he wanted to leave DC in what he assumed would be an awkward place with the execution. Same for why he made Matrix Supergirl so convoluted
This is probably a "yeah I know" moment, but Frenz had started on Thor with Tom Defalco about 6 months prior to this, and their run is VERY Kirby inspired
That's probably my favorite 80s Superman story. Seeing Frenz's art style homaging Kirby is a real treat
Last Son is easily one of my favorite Superman stories. I relate to it really really hard
Knowing who Chris really is, seeing him, even accidentally, rejecting the Z for the S is some powerful foreshadowing
Action Comics #844 - October 2006
Hope is the light that lifts us out of the darkness
Thanks Mark. These are great
Hey look what someone just gave me!
I'm guessing this was a promotional item for Superman Returns. Anyone know who made these?
It's #SupermanSunday
