Roman wooden water pipe unearthed beneath the Belgian city of Leuven Archaeologists working in Leuven, Belgium, unearthed a Roman wooden water pipe that was remarkably preserved from the Roman imperial period

Archaeologists in Leuven, Belgium, just uncovered a 2,000-year-old Roman wooden water pipeโ€”remarkably preserved in marshy soil. Proof that ancient Romans knew a thing or two about plumbing! #RomanEngineering #Archaeology #Leuven #AncientInfrastructure #HistoryUncovered

A pair of bronze foot-guards, found in Ruvo di Puglia, Italy. Dating 520-480 BC.
Only a few examples of foot-guards survived. The might have been too cumbersome to be of practical purpose.

On display at British Museum.

This week I'm at my old haunt, Senate House, for the already excellent #BDCAM25. So far today: new ontologies for the archived Web; LLM-enabled-metadata-generation-as-a-service, and more besides. And it's only day one.

The building that inspired Orwell | Charles Saumarez Smith | The Critic Magazine London was subject to a whole series of neoclassical plans for its development from the 1870s onwards.

The NEH does a lot of important work, but my favorite program is their Preservation Assistance Grants, which provide $10K to small humanities collections like local history museums and archives to care for their collections.

Trying to come up with the words to say.

I'm terrified for our students.

We just received an email that an international grad student at UMN has been detained. Minnesota has laws stating police are not required to provide info to ICE. Admin claims no info was given.

How can we protect our people?
