Fifteenth Hunger Strike of the Year at Tacoma Detention Center: Seventy Detained People Protest Conditions and Prepare to Grow in Numbers

Seventy immigrants protested inhumane conditions at Northwest Detention Center and are planning to work with additional detained immigrants facing the same conditions to pressure GEO Group to meet their demands.

Seventy detained immigrants inside the infamous Northwest Detention Center (NWDC) skipped three meals beginning December 2nd to protest detention conditions that are further worsening their wellbeing. The private-prison profiteer, GEO Group, runs the detention center owned by the U.S. Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE). On December 3rd, GEO group Sergeant Johnson agreed to meet the demands so that protestors would end their hunger strike. The demands include turning off the air-conditioning, addressing medical negligence, and fixing the internet issues preventing people from communicating with friends and loved ones via video calls. The hunger strikers paused their hunger strike but are prepared to call on other units in the facility to join in protest if their demands are not met.

📽️ Watch: Palestinian historian Rashid Khalidi explains that for decades Zionism openly described itself as a “colonizing enterprise,” even though the IHRA definition now pushed across U.S. campuses calls that basic historical fact “antisemitic.”

He points to the Jewish Colonization Agency, a major land-purchase body active from the 1870s to the 1950s, as evidence of how central this self-definition once was. After WWII, he says, Zionist leaders “rebranded” the movement as an anti-colonial force that had supposedly liberated Palestine from Britain.

Khalidi calls it a “remarkable achievement” and one of the most effective political rebrandings of the 20th century.

🇵🇸 Tonight we had the honor of hosting the first session of Rashid Khalidi’s A Short Course on Palestine. The space was filled to capacity with people eager to learn and engage with the history of Palestine in relation to the rise of Zionism. Hosting this course at The People’s Forum, in light of Columbia University’s capitulation to the Trump administration’s crackdown on pro-Palestinian organizing, creates an opportunity to study this history together in a space of solidarity. Here, we not only build knowledge but also deepen the analysis and commitment essential for all who are part of the ongoing movement for justice in Palestine.

This normalizes corruption, feeding the sentiment that both sides suck and so politics is pointless. A Dem party focused on rehabilitating its broken brand would be criticizing Trump and booting out Cuellar. Let the corrupt guys become corporate lobbyists - they’re dragging our party down.

Israeli forces are blocking specialists from entering Gaza to defuse and clear unexploded ordnance. The result is scenes like this: eight-year-old Jude suffering devastating shrapnel injuries — and children dying every week from new blasts that can be prevented.

Israel has dropped tens of thousands of tons of U.S.-made bombs on Gaza – more than the combined weight of the bombs dropped on London, Dresden, and Hamburg in World War II. UN Mine Action warns that 5–10% of the munitions fired into Gaza failed to detonate, turning the territory into a live minefield.

The Israeli outlet The Marker, Haaretz’s financial desk, reported that the Israeli Air Force knew of at least 3,000 unexploded bombs in Gaza as of April 2025. UNMAS says it has so far identified at least 560 unexploded ordnance in the limited areas it has been allowed to reach. “However, we will not know the full extent of the contamination in Gaza until and unless a comprehensive survey can take place,” its spokesperson said at a recent conference.

A senior Palestinian Authority envoy publicly attacked Drop Site’s reporting earlier today, accusing Jeremy Scahill of distorting the PA’s position — without disputing a single fact from the investigation. On the Drop Site News livestream, Scahill laid out the broader context: Palestinians across political factions overwhelmingly oppose the new election law, and every major rights and civic group in Palestine has condemned it as anti-democratic. He noted that the envoy’s message essentially boils down to telling critics to stay quiet while the PA continues acting as an enforcer for the political terms demanded by Washington and the Israeli occupation.

“There’s a very dire situation happening when it comes to who speaks for the Palestinians,”
@JeremyScahill
 told Drop Site Live.

“No matter how much servitude Abbas engages in, no matter how weak and decrepit the PA is, it’s still too Palestinian for the Israelis.” He said Israel and the US have long blocked any unified Palestinian leadership, with the PA often serving as a “veneer of legitimacy” for their plans — including with the new U.N. Security Council resolution.

Scahill notes Yahya Sinwar tried in 2017 to broker a deal for the PA to return and take power in Gaza, but Abbas backed off under US and Israeli pressure. And he stressed this isn’t about Hamas alone: the most popular national figure remains Marwan Barghouti, whose legitimacy threatens both Israel and Abbas.

📰 ICC fugitive Israeli PM Netanyahu tells Trump why Israel is openly violating the Gaza ceasefire deal

Axios reports that during a call on Monday, Trump pressed Netanyahu over Israel’s ongoing daily attacks in Gaza, asking why Israeli forces were killing Hamas fighters trapped in tunnels inside Israeli-controlled areas instead of letting them surrender — a direct breach of the ceasefire.

U.S. officials have been trying to arrange an amnesty deal for those fighters, in what they believe could be a test case for disarming Hamas. But Netanyahu defended violating the ceasefire by noting the fighters are “armed and dangerous.”

🔴 BREAKING: Four Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip since dawn Tuesday in a new violation of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.

The Israeli army confirmed it killed four Palestinians in two separate incidents in the north and the south, claiming they “crossed the yellow line.” A photojournalist was killed and another injured while covering Israeli strikes in central Khan Younis, and one Palestinian was killed in a raid near the Bani Suhaila roundabout. Another was shot dead west of the yellow line in Al-Zaytoun.

LAPD made no mention of CSP's connection to the shooting in early public messaging about the incident, despite the involved officers having intimate knowledge about the neighborhood - its gangs, its layout, its culture and people - through their work in the program.
At the same time, CSP sat on the verge of becoming its own bureau, a move that would establish the community policing program as a core element of LAPD's organizational structure. CP's connection to the shooting was never publicly mentioned until Inadvertent obtained records about the incident almost four years later through a lawsuit.
