Ian Austin, an Army veteran, was arrested for protesting ICE in Minneapolis. But he’s continued protesting. Senior reporter @julialurie.bsky.social spoke to him.
“When they say, ‘Why would you be out here?’ How the fuck could I not be out here?” he says. “My nation is under attack."
This isn't about "training issues." The murderer who executed Renee Good has been with ICE for 10 years, and according to DHS, the murderer who executed Alex Pretti has been there for 8 years.
These aren't "new recruits," or officers that can be "retrained." ICE can't be reformed. Abolish ICE.
ICE murdered Renée Good in broad daylight. Less than 3 weeks later, they killed Alex Pretti, shooting him 10 times. Every day, we watch as people are ripped from their cars, their homes, their lives.
We can't allow ourselves to look away from this cruelty. Abolish ICE.
Alex Pretti wasn’t a part of “engineered chaos.” He was a nurse who cared about people. An individual. What is “engineered chaos” is what this admin is doing in blue cities to justify invocation of the insurrection act.
In October, ICE grabbed Maher Tarabishi.
He was a 24/7 caregiver for his disabled son Wael.
At the time of Maher’s detention, disability advocates warned that taking away Wael’s caregiver put his life at risk.
Wael died on Friday at age 30.
ICE caused his death.
They didn’t get to say goodbye.

This is entirely to please Trump, who has voiced criticism of 60 Minutes under the new owners, who are the definition of rank amatuers, emphasis on rank. This Stephen Miller interview suggestion is idiotic in the context of this story and shows a startling lack of sophistication or smarts.
When I went after affluent child abusers as a prosecutor, the defense attorneys came after me not only in the courtroom but personally as well. One of my judges even tried obstruct prosecution. I pray the Epstein survivors receive the justice they deserve.
