IWDA’s new 10-year strategy is a bold, future-focused roadmap to advance gender equality, transforming power, and building momentum for deeper, long-term feminist impact. Underpinning the strategy is our 4S framework, which grounds our work and guides how we show up in solidarity.

Over four decades, IWDA has developed a suite of practical resources to equip women’s rights organisations and advocates with the tools to challenge inequality and drive lasting transformation.

Through flexible, feminist funding that allowed us to intentionally invest in convenings, collaboration and movement-building, WAVE demonstrated what becomes possible when we unite our voices for change.

At IWDA, we have always known that resilient and vibrant feminist movements are critical to defending and advancing the rights of diverse women and girls. But one program in particular redefined our understanding of feminist movement-building.

Women’s Action for Voice and Empowerment (WAVE) was a bold and transformative leadership program that supported individuals, organisations, and movements across Asia and the Pacific.

Bringing together 18 women’s rights organisations from across five countries, it didn’t just create opportunities for individual women – it built collective power.

Beyond the incredible women leaders that were in program itself, WAVE created a ripple effect that opened spaces for more women to step into leadership and influence the decisions that shape their lives.

WAVE: building our collective power

Women’s Action for Voice and Empowerment (WAVE) is a ground-breaking women’s leadership program, bringing together 18 women’s rights organisations across five countries in Asia and the Pacific - not just to support individual leaders, but to build lasting, collective power.

IWDA staff have come together again in 2025 to #WearItPurple and show our continued solidarity with LGBTQIA+ young people. LGBTQIA+ communities have always been central to feminist movements, and we proudly stand alongside them today and every day.

In Timor-Leste’s Covalima district, Covalima Community Centre (CCC) is creating space for women to lead. Behind the scenes, the partnership between CCC and IWDA is more than just collaboration,but a source of pride, empowerment and lasting impact.

In 2010, IWDA launched Triple Jeopardy, a world-leading intersectional research project placed a spotlight on violence against women with disabilities in Cambodia. Led by women with lived experience of disability as researchers, it breaks new ground in both method and impact.

For the past 12 years, Voice for Change (VfC) and IWDA have built a very special partnership. Since 2013, we have seen VfC grow in its influence, bringing the voices of women in their communities to the regional and global stage.

Since then, we have continued to push boundaries and develop ground-breaking research and projects to fill knowledge gaps and, most importantly, shine a light on the stories and lived realities of those too often sidelined in decision-making.

From this, Beneath Paradise was created. Through powerful photography, audio recordings, and personal testimonials, Beneath Paradise documented the lived realities of hundreds of women across the Pacific - amplifying voices too often overlooked in global conversations.

1995 – a defining moment in the global movement for gender equality. A decade after IWDA was founded, we took part in the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing where one of the most ambitious and progressive blueprints for advancing women's rights worldwide was adopted.
