@youngvulgarian.marieleconte.com I really liked your piece about Sentimental Value. I think overall you liked the film more than I did, but I so agreed with your take on the ending - it just wasn't earned was it, and so neat and tidy. And then that SONG playing to rub in the positivity!

But I mean she, and the band, always DID, from a large section of the black US music scene, both artists and critics - I remember her being revered, and VERY much considered cool

oh well in general, yeah, I think the Sade influence on all those things is HUGE. I felt a kinship with her style of singing even back in 1984 - we were recording our first albums at the same time in the same studio, and it's clear that as singers we had similar ideas about phrasing and minimalism!

Bullet Proof Soul? Not consciously, no. I think the Love Deluxe album is actually the Sade album I know the least, as it came out in 1992 which is a kind of weird lost year for me, the year Ben was in hospital. I missed that album at the time and only caught up with it later.

But also people are cross all the time about musicians not being able to earn a living from streaming. In a world where literally EVERYONE can release an album, and millions do, I just don't know how that's possible, but that seems to be an unpopular opinion.

I think perhaps I mean people's expectations have changed utterly. Hence all the anger around streaming.
